I have heard people talk about DPP. Where can I find a free download of DPP? When I tryr to get it off of the site it makes me give the serial # for my 1d... which I don't have! Haha...HELP!

Here's link to Canon's site where you find it.
Follow the link:

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=DownloadDetailAct&fcategoryid=314&modelid=9430#sapps

then click "Click here to download the file" under the "Software Applications and Updates" then a new windows opens and after selecting language just scroll down

Any reason to keep and continue to use Canon's File View utility? This is what I previously used to edit my RAW files, but this one looks even better. Thanks!

As a matter of interest, why would someone use DPP instead of Photoshop CS? CS can do the same things DPP does with RAW files, cant it?

Sort of. Every RAW converter converts the files a little differently. I prefer DPP to CS for conversions. (I prefer C1 to DPP.)

I shoot mostly raw and have PSE3 and EOS viewer for raw conversion.

Not sure if it's just me but I do like raw conversion in PSE3 and use EOS viewer. Is there any reason I should upgrade to DPP? If I upgrade to Dpp will it over ride EOS, as I do not want to lose it? Will there be much of a difference? Does anyone else have experience and feelings on PSE3 converter?

To answer the specific question the answer is no, it does not over ride EVU.

And if you try it you might want to look at the how to videos at photoworkshop.com .

DPP apparently isn't capable of 'extract and save JPEG'... so if your like me, and like to use the extacted JPEG images for review and even sometimes to print... then you should Keep FVU.

Also, DPP apparently doesn't use the Thumbnail files... or at least it doesn't seem like it does, it takes along time to display the thumbnails that it seems to create directly from the RAW data... This may be no big deal, perticularly if you have a fast machine, but sometimes I just like to review my RAW images a little faster then DPP is capable of... So I use FVU sometimes still...

I like the control of DPP for converting images, so I tend to use it more then any other RAW converter... however I still use FVU.

Perfect answer, thank you.

To try and answer some other questions: I use FVU to change the white balance and exposure. It seems to do a better and faster job than Photoshop. I also like to convert it to TIFF from FVU, and then I do all my other post-processing in PS, including changing it to JPG if need be. Since I dont extract and then save JPG from FVU, This DPP may work for me.

Thanks,
