I've got a couple of questions about the LIPO battery pack/recharger for the E20...

I'm looking at a second hand grip/charger/battery pack on ebay. The seller is good as I've bought some other bits from them, but I'm a little concerned about a second hand consumable like a rechargeable battery. The auction states "good for 1000 shots or more without recharging". How does this compare to what you would expect from a brand new pack, and roughly (I know this is not easy) how long could I expect this battery to continue working at this kind of level, or at an acceptable level, before I'd need to replace the battery itself?

Secondly (and much easier I hope!), how long does the B-12LPB/B-20LPC combo actually take to fully charge from a normal in camera discharge?

I seem to recall 500 cycles being the typical stated life of a lipo (but I'm sure you'll find the data in the on line manual)

I somehow doubt the seller has tested the pack to see if it shoots 1000 shots, so its probably a guestimate based on a new unit.

You can't possibly expect an answer to the second part without knowing how many charge/discharge cycles the battery has done?!?

Thanks! I presume its not possible to find out how many charges/discharges a battery has on it?

Hi,

We have B-10LPB (the older version) - got it same time as E-10 i July 2001 - have not noticed any changes in its behaviour. It can stand shooting sessions 1000-1300 pics easily, take about 2h to recharge it - 12LPB probably takes bit longer maybe 3h ... much depends has this eBay battery been used and has it reached nominal 1000 recharges or has it been laying on shelves two years collecting dust. Also all depends what they ask $$ for set

I recently sold a B-32LPS battery & grip set on eBay for around $260. I had bought it new on eBay about 8 months ago for about $290, but I've converted to an E-1 & can't afford to keep the E-20 & accessories (still have the E-20 if anyone is interested--eBay buyer reneged on purchase). I certainly got well over 1000 shots per charge & probably shot about 2500 to 3000 images during that 6 months. If I remember correctly, it fully charges in about 3 hours. Besides the initial charge, I think I charged it twice more; the 2nd time was not really needed but I wanted to have a full charge in order to cover a museum opening in Sept. The new owner should have enough juice in it to get another 1000 pics before having to recharge again and the whole thing seemed to be going strong with no loss of power. So, if you're comfortable with the seller, go for it.

Cheers,

Laurie,

I have 2 Lipo sets both with the B-12s. As I recall, the number of recharges is about 1200 per battery. You should easily get 1000+ photographs per charge. Also note, that "topping off" is not considered a "recharge" so to speak. I've had an occasion or 2 to top off the battery to ensure that I wouldn't miss a shot.

My "older" battery has about 5 full charges on it and its 2½ years old. I've charged the "new" battery once, have approximately 900 images and it's showing 60% when I turn the camera on.
I believe that the batteries will outlive me! :-)

As an afterthought; when using the on-board flash, my batteries show some "squirrelly" behavior but just cycling off and on fixes that. I very rarely use the live preview but when I do I notice no difference in performance.
You'll be very pleased!

If you can visualize it, then create it in the camera, finish it off with the print that matches your mind's eye then you are, most likely, a master...

Thanks for all the help!

Last thing, has anyone got any photos of the E10/20 with the grip attached? I would really like to see how it affects the bulk/shape of the system!! Thanks again!
