Hi all,

I have finally decided to go with the Digital Rebel. Yeah! :-) Now I just need to purchase one.

I've heard good things about B&H, but their net price (after shipping) is $69.95 more expensive than BuyDig. I wrote to B&H to see if they would match BuyDig's price, but their reply was a "scare tactic". It basically said that anyone selling for less than B&H might be grey market, might not ship the product, might not get the rebate, might not be covered by Canon's warranty, etc., etc...

Has anyone here purchased a Digital Rebal from BuyDig? If so, how did it go? Did you get your rebate?

Is B&H really worth an extra $69.95 for the exact same product?

Thanks....

I'm in the exact same position, but B&H didn't even bother to get back to me.

I've dealt with B&H before with no probs...
sorry never dealt with BuyDig...

HOWEVER, I placed an order for a Drebel 18-55 kit late yesterday afternoon with ElectricSam.com because of previous outstanding service from this merchant...Lo & behold the camera was in my hands at noon today!! I chose the standard free shipping option & the camera was delivered from Louisiana to NJ in less than a day, now that's service!

I bought a Pro1 from this merchant late in November & had the same experience...just make sure you call to verify the order, no pressure to buy other stuff...all they say is 'Thanks, enjoy your new camera'...price was $810.
Needless to say, they will be my first choice in the future...

if you buy the dr from buydig with the lens then its $12.95 for 7-10 business day s&h. thats what ticked me off initially. esp. when its free s&h for the dr from buydig without the lens then its free s&h. i checked out b&h and found out just what you did, alot more money. what i ended up doing was saying screw the kit lens and bought the dr body from buydig. paid $30 for 2-3 shipping and bought a cheap lens from b&h with 3-5 day shipping. the lens from b&h arrived quicker than the lens from buydig, but that was fedex's fault. didn't really have any problems with buydig, just would have rather bought from b&h except for the money. warranty and rebate are fine from buydig.

its where i got my powershot 330 in jan2003.

order was placed on a thursday. even by the next tuesday, i had not heard back from them.

my order took forever to process, and i gave up waiting on hold to ask someone about it.

a week later, i finnaly got thorugh to someone there. the lady was quick, dismisive, and unapologetic. she told me it went out yeasterday, but she didnt have a tracking number.

when i did get a tracking number, i founf it went out the day i call; i suspect she lied, and just took care of it there. but i did get the camera, new in box, and for a cheap price; it was just kinda scary doing so.

have you looked at newegg.com?
i think they want about $910 for the kit.

VERY reliable, cheaper and faster than B+H. of the 20+ orders with them ive only had one problem, which wasnt even thier fault, and they to the inititive to quiickly resolve the situation.

also dont buy B+h's BS about how thier the cheapest real deal out there.

I got my DRebel this month from BeachCamera... it arrived within a week and the price was unbeatable! BuyDig is the same company, but I haven't bought from that particular site.

I recommend them.

Nothing wrong with either place, I bought my Canon S500 from BuyDig with no issues and will shop with them again. I also bought my 28-135 IS at BH shipped 2nd day air with a bunch of other accessories for my Rebel and the turnaround was very quick. I also believe that BuyDig is an authorized canon dealer also if that puts your mind to rest. Do a search on this forum. I only reason I bought my 28-135 IS from BH is because with all the other stuff I bought, about $600 worth, the 2nd day air was only $27 so it became cheaper than BuyDig. BuyDig is great if you want a single item and you are willing to wait for them to process your items if you choose the cheap shipping method. If you pay for the express shipping 2 days or next day, they are just as quick as BH but then again, I haven't had a need to return anything so, I believe that BH is better on that respect according to the forums. But that the price you pay for ordering online at a discount hope it works. Enjoy your new camera.
I have bought about $2000 of photo equipment from BuyDig in the
past 6 months and had no problem. Can,t beat there prices!

I've bought 4 cameras from buydig over the past few years without any problems. The only concern as compared to B&H might be who would handle an exchange for a defective camera better. I never had a problem so I don't know. The Canon G5 that I bought had a US warranty and qualified for the Canon rebate at that time and was processed without a problem..

The only other thing that might play into a decision is whether you want a black body. In that case buydig doesn't have it. Also, if you go with buydig, they usually offer std shipping at no charge, and only added it in during xmas. You may want to wait a week or so to see if they go back to that policy.

Best of luck.

I got my EOS as at http://www.profeelvideo.com/ a week ago at the price of $700 after rebate. But mine has the 18-55 lens, not only body. However, I am still not sure whether I will get my rebate :( because the warranty that came with the camera is "international warranty" (with USA Inc. Canada Inc. underneath). Anybody has an idea, whether I will get my rebate. If I can get my rebate, I would definitely suggest this site. (Now the price just went down for about $20!!..just a week after I bought it!!) . Let me know if anyone knows about the International and USA warranty..
Thanks

Hi there,

In November, I purchased my DR body & lens kit from BuyDig.com for $804. The online order was placed on a Friday and I rec'd it the following Wednesday. (FYI, I was able to track the shipping online via FedEx web site.)

Later in the same week I went to the Canon web site and went through the steps to "prequalify" for the Canon $100 rebate. Mailed the rebate along with necessary documentation by the first of the next week. I received my $100 rebate check 2 days ago which was about a month after mailing it in to Canon.

My entire experience was smooth with both BuyDig and Canon.

Total cost for my DR body & lens was $704.00 after $100 rebate.

Hope that helps! I was nervous as well about ordering from them since it was my first time, but based on my experience I would recommend them.

Best of luck,

Beverly

I just ordered my 5th digital camera from Buy Dig, and unfortunately it will be the last one I get from them. Camera World (Ritz online) will match their prices if you call them.

I wanted to use a Visa gift card to purchase my new Pro1, but they wouldn't even key it into the system, saying that they didn't accept gift cards. Of course, if they take VISA then they take the gift cards. That's how they work!

But okay. I called back again and got another agent. He was able to key in the gift card, since I didn't tell him it was a gift card. I asked that $200 be charged to the first card, and told them I would like to give a second card for the balance.

I was told Rudely "You have to pick one card or I can't place the order for you". I told them most retailers have no problem taking multiple payment sources, and that if he was unsure of how to do it perhaps another agent could help him key it in. He then said "We don't do it that way, we have never done it that way. Do you want the camera? Them give me one credit card I can charge it all to or i can't help you."

Then, I caleld back and tried to get a manager but was on hold for about an hour before being disconnected.

I feel like a jerk because I went online later and still ordered the camera from them, on a different card. One card. I called Ritz afterward to ask if they price match and they said sure. They also said they could process the gift card, and put the balance on another card easily. Monday, if my order hasn't shipped I may just start ordering from them.

Between my parents, my finace, myself, and my friends BuyDig has gotten a lot of business from me (11 cameras in all). They will certainly lose more than just a couple of sales here!

On a positive note, they are safe, and their goods are factory fresh, US waranted products. I have never had a problem until now, but I've always ordered over the web. All in all they are the rudest retailer I have ever dealt with. In my opinion, when you are spending that kind of cash you should be treated respectfully, and if they honestly were unable to process multiple payment sources (I don't belive it for a second though) they should have at least been apologetic, instead of sounding annoyed with me.

You'll definitely get your rebate. The warranty card you described is the standard US warranty that comes with all DRebel purchases. Canon doesn't distinguish between the US and Canada insofar as their camera sales are concerned; that's why they mention both countries on the card. But, put your mind to rest, since every DRebel sold in the US and in Canada comes with the exact same warranty card you obtained.

The only people who won't be eligible for the rebate are those who bought a true grey-market camera. Such cameras come with non-North American warranty cards that specify coverage only for some other specific region of the world such as Asia, Europe, or the Middle East.

Check with dbuys.com. I purchased a Canon Elura 70 ( Dig video camera ) for $529 when everybody had it for $699 and up. Had no problem at all. USA with all the works included and prompt shipment.

B&H has good customer service, but no, it's not worth $70 extra, at least IMHO.

In most discussions like this, someone will say "it's worth an extra $70 to deal with B&H", and someone else will say "you're stupid not to spend the extra $150 and buy from your local camera dealer". There are advantages to both -- if you have lots of extra money to throw around, and if you don't mind tossing an extra $50-100 up-front to your state for sales tax.

But instead of donating your extra money to merchants and/or the state, why not donate it to a relief fund? :-)

Chuck,

Thank you very much for the advice. That sounds like a good news for me that comes with the new year. That makes me feel much better. However, I will wait for the email from prefeelvideo, since I already sent it (they said they are taking are of it), or call Canon, if possible, to make sure I dont miss anything. But your advice is definitely useful. And, if there is no progress, I will just send everything in for the rebate.
Thank you and happy new year,
NW

I bought mine from dell. It was $850 and then I got a $40 off $400 coupon code from dealnews.com (curret deal is $25 off) which brought the price down to $810 before rebate. It stated 1-2 weeks delivery but it arrive in less than 5 days.

Out of the box it had a scratched focus screen. I called dell and they shipped out a new one even before I shipped back the old one. I know that a lot of folks have problems with dell. They are a pain to contact but the price and return policy is not bad.
