Hello. I've done nothing but research the forum etc on online photo sharing sites. As far as what I can tell from my search, smugmug seems to have the edge as far as what I need. My only concern is that I'm stuck using a dial-up connection and so I'll probably have to send up thumbnails. Will these images be as sharp on these sites as they are on my personal computer? Also since I'm not able to send large files for zooming in etc., is it worth it to pay the $30.00/yr or should I just find a freebie site? Basically I'm going to use it for my family (living in other states) to be able to see family photos etc. I appreciate your help in advance. Thanks.

I'm in a very similar situation ...on Dial-up because of aged overhead lines and really not that reliable for cable/Broadband .. and the difficulty of showing decent size pics in any quantity is a problem...that of 'showing' time (loading) of course. But I wonder if you may enjoy the benefit that I have at least with my ISP. They allow up to FIVE email addresses from my main monthly 'always-on' for surfing subscription ... so I set up five different email addresses , never use them at all for email but each one is allowed quite a fair amount of webspace - not a web SITE but just web SPACE in which you can use it it however you wish...make seperate Directories, upload pic files into those , or even load exe files or any files you wish , then they are obtainable just via a link ... for example ..
http://www.onthenet31.fsnet.co.uk/Trentham2/index.htm

It is still a slow load on pics more than a certain quantity of course but the above will give you an idea of what can be done with a bit of patience in the 'show' - at least you KNOW the limitations and work around it . I get a 750x dimension pic that is not TOO bad ..

As I've got an excellent album-maker prog that enables me to set up the album on the drive, that I do first (always can be seen via the drive VERY easily of course , and from that set-up I've burned many CDs in exact format , so that's another use... but ISPs are notorious for not telling you much about this until you examine their fine print in their Home page usually. Take a look..

I use the prog WS_FTP to set up my sites for each webspace then just upload the various seperate pic-files from the drive album pre-made, then such as the above link just shows any ... Persevere and I'm sure it's likely to be workable. I use this also VERY easily to upload any pics I want to include on the Forums, just have a Directory on one of my webspaces called 'Images' then upload the pic-file from C: drive (or wherever you have the pic) to that Images folder on a webspace and put in the necessary link to take you there.
