First color printer for first digcam (Kodak DC4800).

I don't expect to be printing tons. And by the same token am concerned about how long ink will last without drying out. PIM? Cost of ink? Head clogging?

Want good value and good prints. Thanks

So I guess it's not worth it? It has 2880x720-dpi resolution. I thought that was pretty good. Is there some reason to avoid this printer? Thanks

How does this compare to say the HP 932C
I tried scanning pictures and when I print them they come out looking like a puzzle. Has anyone experience this problem? Is it that this printer is not good for pictures?

Thanks

I know that it's partially subjecctive to what one likes to view, but are there other known issues with one vs the other? clogged heads, notoriuously expensive ink, etc?

TIA

This coming weekend, compusa will have the 880 for $100. If you go to staples and pricematch it and use the 25 off 100 coupon thats around on the net that brings it down to 75, in addition there is 30 mail in rebate for that too! So your final cost could be $45+tax. Compared to the 932 which sells for 150, I'd say 45+tax is a better deal. Thats better than the 69 that I paid for the 875dc from officemax recently. Only thing is that epson doesnt sell archival ink for the 880 and its not a 6 color printer like the 870/875.

Good luck!

kgatwork - I know! dat;s why I asked!

I need to print but don't want to spend a lot of money on a printer. I guess the 880 is the way to go, and send the 'keepers' off to ofoto and the like.

any deals on the 875dc?

I like the idea of 6 colors. Let's just put this in perspenctive- I'm using a BJ-100 (circa 1994?) - and it's ok by me. I hardly print 5 pages a month. So whatever I get I'll keep for a while, so I'd like to be relativey current (for a few days at least)!

Sorry, haven't seen any recent deals on 870/875dc.

The only thing that might be a problem is the lack of use, the epsons may not be as good a choice as the HP's because if the head clogs on the epsons due to inactivity you might have to send it back for repair vs just installing a new cart in the hp.

I have an old epson stylus pro that I use infrequently and don't have major problems with clogging (a few cleaning cycles usually cleans it up) so that may not be a issue, but you never can tell. It still prints pretty good IMHO, but nowhere near as photographic as the 875 and I'm guessing the 880.

On this epson 880 from staples, i read that the rebate doesn't apply to the ones bought at staples.. just a heads up if anyone is considering getting this.
