A95 - Trouble Turning Date/Time Stamp On?

My new A95 rec menu option for turning on the date/time stamp is grayed out. No matter where I go, or what mode I try changing to, that menu option stays grayed out... not allowing me to cursor to it, and turn it on. The cursor just skips over that option. What am I missing? What do I have to do to turn it on?

On my A80, setting the date/time is usually done the 'first' time the camera is turned on.

Or when the date/time battery is low, the date/time menu appears.

Setting the date/time does not cause the date/time to appear on your pictures unless you print using direct print.

I can set the date and time perfectly. That is no problem. Turning on the stamp, so the downloaded image will retain that information is what I'm trying to do. Perhaps I have a misunderstanding on the feature itself. Perhaps it only applies if you are using the direct print capability? Thanks for your time.

your picture doesn't retain the date/time?

There is no need to turn it on, it should show up on your exif info when you download your pictures.

There is a feature on the A95 labeled "Embedding the Date in the Image Data" that according to the manual is available in the Rec menu. On my camera, that option is skipped over when cursoring down the options, hence making it unavailable. The impression I am left with is the camera will either embed the date and time directly in the image itself, or it won't, based on this feature/setting. I have not tried downloading any pics yet, so I'm not up on all of this. Will be doing it from a CF reader though, bypassing the camera completely. So the date, if any, will have to be in the image itself. I thought that particular setting controlled this behavior.

For the A75, "Date Imprint" is available only in "Postcard Print Mode". I suspect the A95 is the same. Check your manual.

When printing using DPOF on a Canon Direct Print or PictBridge compliant printer, the date can be added.

As far as the grey area, did you set the date/time the first time you turned on the camera?

Look at what it says about Postcard Print Mode on this page. This is the only mode where the date can be imprinted on the image by the camera:

Well, Bill and Phil, you definitely rock. The section referencing "embedding the date in the image" does appear to be a subsection to the postcard printing section upon taking another look. My bad.
