I am Newbie in Retouching digital foto

I have many pics with a lot of noise, typical pics from pocket camera with high ISO and LOW light condition.

I tried to fixed it with ACDSee 6.0 . it works but the photos also loss sharpness and detail. I have heard there are better software for Windows XP that can do better job ? I also Have PS CS Installed . has someone knows about this softwares .

this is a very common problem especially for newbies. so any good comment will be usefull for many of us. Is it stand alone program or as a plug in in Photoshop?.
many thanks for any comment.

With my limited experience, I've found that Neat Image tends to remove the most noise (compared to Noise Ninja and Noiseware). You do lose a little detail (not a lot), but you do in the other programs too. I haven't seen one that does a thorough job and loses no detail.

Of course, I was using default settings with all of these programs. I didn't do thorough profiling.

Too many pixels, too little area, too much noise.

I use both Noise Ninja ( http://www.picturecode.com/nn_beta.htm ) and Neat Image ( http://www.neatimage.com/ ). Can't say one is definitely better than the other. Both can run standalone; Neat Image can also run as a PS plug-in, Noise Ninja can't yet but will soon (now in beta).

For cleaning up images from my little P&S camera, I've obtained noise profiles for all the ISO settings of the camera and simply run Noise Ninja in batch mode on each new batch of images I transfer from the memory card to my PC. Duck soup.

Guess I haven't been reading the alleged flak about posting links. :-)

Great Help.. Thanks a lot

I have been looking for Noise Ninja now I can download it and compare it with Noiseware Pro and Neat Image. I am looking for software that can process many fotos at once. instead of opening it one by one. as I got many fotos to do. seems Noise Ninja can do the job. been using ACDSee 6 but not happy with the result. too much detailed loss.

Among the most versatile have been Neat Image and Noise Ninja.

Noise Ninja must win the prize at speed, ease of use and quality of the output. I just got the plug-in for Photoshop and love it!

Check out my 20D galleries in pbase and see how well it has worked for me on the high ISO pics (Have to admit noise reduction is often not needed at all with this wonderful camera.)

Noise Ninja is available as a stand-alone program and also as a plug-in for Adobe compatible programs.

Many thanks Isabel
I am downloading Noise Ninja now and put my order asap

I am upgrading from drebel to 20D soon, this month I spent too much on L glasses 70-200mm L f/2.8 IS USM; 85mm f/1.8 USM, so I have to wait for my wallet to fill up :). most of my pics that need N/R is shot with my Sony DSC T1. which I carry with me when I go to work.

here is one sample from my DSC T1.
