bulit-in flash won't synch with bounce flash

I had this problem cos I do not want to carry extra external flash,so I use the body flash and cover with diffuse paper and my EZ540 flash attach with slave sensor use as bounce,my pict turn out no diffrent cos I don't see the bounce effect in the picture,most of the pict like using the body flash,has anyone try this method before ?

had the same problem with my sigma 500 dg super, then i figured out that the slave flash fired at the moment the onboard flash does the pre-flash to measure the light. so the external flash had not the time to recharge.

so just press the * button to cause the camera to measure the light, the external flash will fire, too. now you have 16 seconds (i think) to take the picture with both flashes firing at the same time.
