PICTURE of the YEAR...

I'm very much an armature so I don't expect to compete with some of what I've seen here. My favorite changes constantly. Right now, the pic below is my favorite. Too bad I accidentally took it at iso1600.

VERY fond memories of my last visit to that monument ..... :O)
We hadn't even realised it was there, and stumbled across it by accident. I love the way the monument has been positioned to look out over the hills. Far more poignant than facing the car park...

Wow. Fantastic picture jammerbirdi. So clean and sharp. May I ask
what lens you used for this photo? (not that I think it's the lens
that made this magic, but you ;)
Thank you, so much. That was the KIT LENS! lol! Here's what else is funny. I bought my D70 on May 1st. That shot was taken on May 7th. I didn't have the slightest idea what I was doing.
Here's mine, show us yours.

Not so much a competition as a celebration of the D70 and all our
efforts to take great pictures. Maybe we can pick some best of the
best later on. Choose that one image that stands out above all the
rest and post that sucker.

Comments welcome on mine, of course.

My brother-in-law's first reaction to seeing the shots I have on
display at home from the same shoot was that they were 'disgusting'

but I think his assumption and reaction are his problem, not mine.

In the UK this subject has been rumbling on for weeks, after an
amateur street-photographer was arrested and apparently subjected
to all kinds of humiliation after taking candids in Trafalgar
Square which happened to include some children. Queue righteous
indignation on the part of all street photographers, and various
'only doing my job and protecting the public' comments from the
fuzz.

God only knows what the answer is.
Quite simply it's the reaction from, one would hope, normally rational people such as your brother in law which is fuelling this misplaced paranoia.

The media sensationalising the issue is probably not helping either.

All that's needed is a little common sense, but sadly that's a commodity sadly lacking from today's politically correct "let's ban things just in case" world.

Note, this isn't intended to trivialise any real cases involving child pornography, simply to highlight the irrational reaction to people taking photographs of children be they pictures of their own children or pictures of children playing in a public place.

This one isn't worthy of sharing space in the same thread with the
other incredible pictures that have been posted, but this is my
favorite picture from 2004.
Oh it's worthy. That is FANTASTIC. If you look close near the bottom you can see the folks in their finery. Beautiful shot!

Every time I look at it, I see a waterfall of white lights raining
down into a pool of colored lights. I don't know, something about
it speaks to me.

Thanks for looking and special thanks to jammerbirdi for starting
such a great thread!
Thank you for sharing your shot.
Warm regards for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

What a truly incredible group of talented people we have here. And the scary part is, if every forum on dpreview started one of these threads there would be just as many amazing shots. Kudos and huzzah's to all of us!
Here's another two of my favorites.
