I ordered two 100-400 lenses on the 9th when they were being offered. I received both order confirmation and order acknowledgement showing the 100-400.

This morning I logged on to my account on dell and the ordered shows cancelled.

I called to find out why it had been cancelled and everyone offers to place an order for the 75-300 of course.

I cannot get through to anyone who seems to know anything (after a couple hours).

My concern is, I just wanted treated like everyone else. If everyone is getting coupons, then I want them too. If everyone is getting lenses (which I doubt) then I want them too. But at this point I've got nothing.

My question is, can anyone give me an email or extension number of someone I can talk with that will know about this situation. I have offered to forward my email confirmation to several people in customer care to illustrate the difference in the two items, but nobody seems to care.

BTW, I got in on the Dell 70-200 IS deal as well and what no one seems to point out is that in that deal both the part number and the manufacturer number were ALWAYS showing the IS lens, never anything else. In this deal, the part number from the very beginning was for the 75-300 so I'll be surprised if anyone ever sees lenses out of this one.

My advice would be: Give it up. Did you stop to ask yourself why you ordered TWO of them? Cuz they make great stocking stuffers, right?

And, if I've read the myriad threads correctly, the coupon was offered to people that cancelled their order. Which you didn't do. So, just walk away. What are you out at this point? Nothing.

Or Read the other (Massive) Dell Threads. You can't lose by just waiting it out. The may ship lenses, or they may not. It's clear that they're still thinking about their options. If you cancel now, you're definately out.....

Are they really that unreachable by phone? It's just sounds so unbeleiveable since a large portion of their busniess would be based on phone sales. Usually, when I need support, I click though the menus for Sales. Sales always pick up right away :).

Then, "Social Engineer" your way to support. Try to keep the inital Sales person on the line with you and "guide" you thoguh; don't let them transfer you.

Not a guarantee, but it's worked for me in the past....

What's the part number for a Canon Rebel? What's the part number for the 75-300 lens? Oh... you don't KNOW the part numbers that Canon or Dell uses? Well, neither does anyone else!

The consumer reviews the part TITLE and DISCRIPTION, and isn't expected to know what either Dell or Canon's part numbers are, that is for internal use.

In this case, the title CLEARLY stated 100-400 IS L lens, and the description even mentioned Image Stabilization... which the 75-300 does NOT have.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Fix the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens to your Canon EOS (SLR) Digital Camera and capture high-quality close-up shots. Equipped with an Image Stabilizer, this lens provides a wide zooming range giving an easy, enjoyable picture-taking experience. In addition, the fluorite and Super UD-glass elements largely eliminate secondary spectrum while the floating system ensures high picture quality at all focal lengths. Featuring high optical performance, the lens facilitates focusing as close as 5.9 feet over the entire zooming range, allowing versatile and easy subject selection."

Are you suggesting that a company can advertise product A, describe product A in full detail, then simply put a part number for Part B at the bottom of the page, and THAT's what the customer is ordering???

I really don't think it works that way.

Well, unless Dell delivers on the 100-400IS lens, in which case, he's out about $1,400.

And... based on the 70-200 fiasco, the computer offer fiasco where people purchased $2,300 computers for $218, and the external hard drive fiasco, where people mistakenly got two $100 refunds for a $300 product, don't be so sure that nobodies going to see a 100-400 lens.

Please show me ONE mix up where Dell DIDN'T honor the mistaken offer.

What is the difference between backodered and inProduction (mine)? This is my first DELL order
thanks

I am not suggesting any such thing. I am simply pointing out that there is a difference between this particular fiasco and the 70-200 IS debacle. That is, there was no second lens or part number involved. Everyone at Dell that I've talked with still thinks and shows that I ordered a 75-300. That was never the case with the 70-200 IS deal. That was all I was pointing out.

Yes they really are that unreachable by phone.

I have tried the sales route and always end up a long line for customer service.
