Hi again,

Sorry to make such a large post again, I have a gallery but have heard sounds that it doesn't work properly, so to be able to show you some stuff here's another post of a recent short trip to New York and Washington.

It's hard to make a second screening of the vacation shots and find keepers that are as eye popping as the first time I went through them, but even though these are not as artsy as the first batch I'm sure some of you will find these enjoyable, if only to see some more city and museum scenery.

All with the D2h + 12-24DX or 70-200VR, please ask for specific EXIF when you are interested, to the vast majority I have only done an ACR conversion, to some a bit of photoshop for sharpening or perspective correction (like with Lincoln). Well, here they are:

At the Metropolitan Museum of Art:

Inside the Guggenheim, more high-key than in the previous post:

Chrysler closeup:

The Brooklyn Bridge (with Lee ND 0.6 Grad filter):

FDNY at Ground Zero, with Freedom tower in the back:

Statue of Liberty at night:

Flatiron building taken from Empire State:

Lincoln at dusk:

Lincoln:

Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center:

Phew, if you've come all the way down here, thanks for viewing them and I hope you like them. Any questions or comments are welcomed and I will do my best to answer all of them.

Cheers,

Thanks Hans, I wish I was still there... So many things I want to see again to try them again with different settings... Better luck next time I guess..

Reminds me of my first visit to the states twenty years ago. It's good fun when it's all new.

Really top work actually, especially the SOL, has to have been taken from a helicopter at night, very tricky.

It's lots less fun everytime I go there (security), but still a whole lot of fun.

Hi Meggy, thanks for your comment. The SOL shot was actually taken from the last SOL boat to leave the island to return to Manhattan, it was a dark blue sky when it left and I'm quite happy with the result, I had the 70-200 set to active VR and it really worked :) Thanks again for dropping by.

Hi, Sander--

Enjoyed your shots!

I was at the Met Museum of Art in October and took the same shot of the guy with his fingers in his mouth. For my wife's benefit I titled it "Oh no, not more shopping!"

It was a gray rainy day and my shot turned out bluish like yours.

And, how did you get the shot of Lady Liberty?

Hi Erik, good to hear from you. Hope you are doing ok.

Thanks you very much, I'm also glad they turned out ok, I have seen a lot of stuff that's a lot better but thanks anyway for your awesome kind words.

Personally I think the SR-71 blackbird at the Udvar Hazy is a very cool shot.

was shot from the upper deck of the last boat leaving the island, it was quite dark by then.

The hunger statue at the Met is quite a piece of work isn't it, your title is fitting too ;) Thanks for commenting.

Love this second batch. You are a true artist. These images make me want to go back to the Met and explore your concepts of composition.
Kudos to you!

I don't know if you or others know the story of the statue at the Metropolitan. The statue "Ugolino and his Sons" is about the anguish of a father thinking about cannibalism of his sons. The torment is expressed on his face and the faces of his children.

Also note.....there is an inside joke at the Metropolitan about this statue when it was placed next to the snack bar.

The inside joke was "there is ... a snack bar just to the left of the sculpture in the garden at the Met; you can have $5.00 snacks and $4.00 coffee at your leisure while the good count, starving, contemplating cannibalism, looks down on you. I can't imagine why the Met did this, unless it was because they didn't think anyone would get the sculpture." More likely, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where no work is placed without deliberation, Ugolino sits next to the refreshment bar by design and functions as a secret curatorial joke.

that statue is a true piece of art indeed, I'm glad you gave me the link because at the museum I failed to look and remember what the explanation said. It is also the reason I want to revisit the Met, because all my shots from this statue are quite soft, and I know I can use a tripod on weekdays so I would try that for sure. Maybe you can photograph it with a tripod, if so I'm looking forward to it.

Also thanks you very much for your kind words.

but when did you get that Brooklyn Bridge shot? Surely not on that rainy Sunday morning...did you go back again?

And i assume the Chrysler Building shot was taken from the top of the Empire State? I must get over my fear of heights and go up there someday ;-)

Yes we went back another day, as early as possible and had glorious weather that time :) and the Chrysler building was shot from the safety of a Starbucks on streetlevel 2 blocks away, so actually you can combine this shot with a blueberry muffin ;^) Thanks again for your comment Janet!
