Hi Graig, I'm guessing you mean this photo? Basically I frame the subject first, hold the lens by the zoom-ring with the left hand and the camera in the right hand. After manually setting a longish shutterspeed like half a second, I hold the lens steady but turn the camera, making it skew to the left or right while zooming in or out. What you get as a result is a smooth blend of the first framed position and the last position to hwich you zoomed the camera.hey sander, howd ya do the thing with your d2h at the end of your
post with the moving boy, craig from kentucky also your focal
range, 12-24, and 70-200, what about in between these, i use the
28-75, tryin to make up my mind on a wider lens, thanks
So I just came back from a short vacation (please read no further
if you are offended by such trivial posts...)
I won't go as far as to call these photos 'Artistic', so I'll call
them 'Artsy'.
Thank you very much, and I agree you could spend a whole month there trying to see all the stuff it has to offer, I was there for just 6 days this time around. Next time it'll be longer and I'm getting a better hotel, like the Waldorf or somethingi've taken hundreds of shots in NY, but they are snapshots compared
to these. I want to come back!

What I mean is I zoomed, skewed and moved a lot during the creation
of these shots, and than used some unsual ACR conversion techniques
pumping color and contrast to a 'pleasing' level.
All shots taken with D2h with either a 70-200 VR or a 12-24 DX, the
difference is of course apparent. Most often long shutterspeeds,
handheld or tripod supported, ISO usually at 800 or up, sometimes
(tripod) as low as 200 which is atypical for me.
So here's a small number of the grand total, taken recently in New
York & Washington, I have to thank Janet, RFC, James, Brent, Ron
and others for helping me out in the preparation for the trip, I
appreciate it a lot!
