i was hoping someone could explain this to me. i have a sony f717 with a 128mb memory stick that will do 23 minutes in 320x240 moviemode. yet with my new canon sd300 and a 512mb sd card, i can only do 11 minutes in 320x240 movie mode? is that right? how long should a 512mb sd card hold in 320x240 movie mode? and 640x480 movie mode?

another question, for individuals who bought their sd300 new, did their camera come out of the box with the blue digic II sticker on the front of the camera?...cause mine was new, but it did notcome with any stickers on it, yet i have seen sd300 with the blue digic II sticker on the front of the camera from websites that reviewed this model. is there any significance to this?

last ques, when shooting in camera mode, whenever i press the shutter button, i always hear little clicking. is this normal for canon cameras? is it the autofocus? just wondering cause this is my first canon.

thanks for all the help and information!

Kahlua,

I'm guessing that the difference in the movie size is either the different formats (mpeg for Sony vs. avi for Canon) or maybe the F717 is only 15fps vs. 30fps for the SD300?

My SD300 had the blue digic II sticker.

The clicking sound is normal.

I didn't have stickers on my Ixus 40 from Germany.
Clicking seems also normal to me.

the sony is only recording mpeg1 320x240 at 16 frames a second max, or 8 fps at "lower" quality. The canon is recording at 30 frames per second both 640x480 and 320x240 in motion jpeg, thus the main difference in file size is the movie compression codec and resolution - the canon movies will look considerably superior. I discount the 60fps mode because that is only maximum of a minute. Your handbook should contain the time/card size information if other canons are anything to go by.
