Costco Pictures ! ARGGH!

Not true in my case. I have had WHCC and CostCo do prints from my system and they match what I see.

I have even had Precision in Austin do a test print (8x10) and it came out about the way I would expect.

For my money, when turn around time is important, I use CostCo. I am hoping to use WHCC sometime soon when I don't have short turn around times and can get a $12 USD minimum order.

I think the basic problem here is unreasonable expectations. What a
person sees on his computer screen is never what he will see in
print. 5 times out of 10, it will be waaaay off. 4 times out of 10,
it will be reasonably off. And 1 time out of 10, it might actually
be close - by pure luck. Every printer will produce a different
print, just like every monitor will display a different image...
and it's unreasonable to expect otherwise. Printer profiles help
tremendously, but even then, what you see on your screen will
never be exactly what you see in print. The best one can do is
to use profiles and adjustments to come as close as possible.
Without doing so, you can expect your results to be off 9 times out
of 10.
Sorry, but it's probably not completely Costco's fault.

I don't use the profiles myself. I have my system calibrated between my camera, monitor, home printer and the various printing services I use.

I get what I see and am happy with the results. The important thing is my clients are happy with the results.

The local CostCo takes a great amount of time to calibrate the systems and to maintain that calibration. I saw them last week spend an entire day getting their system back up and running after changing chemicals. They have a 4AM shift that comes in and prints when they get a back log of orders. These folks work hard and it shows in the products they sell.

Take care,
The whole point of this thread is that the original poster did NOT
use the profiles and expected perfect results.

This mirros my experience. I used 3 local labs in a test 3 years ago and all came out about the same except for price. CostCo beat them every time so I use CostCo.

My customers don't have to know that. The customers are paying for my experience in capturing and rendering their cherished moments. The prints are only the end-product of my service. :)

Checked out costco product by printing at the best local lab - by
printing a 8 X 10(8 X12 at costo)
they were the same except it cost more than 4X as much at the lab
and the picture was cropped to 8 X 10

Well, I'll just stick to using my own Epson 2200, with which the costs are lower in the long run (if you get your ink and paper at the right places) and with which you can experiment printing your work on a variety of different media.
That and the fact they are diligent in keeping their system
calibrated and running smoothly.
You realize that Costco is using the same type of printers that
most of your "pro labs" don't you? Also all on Fuji Crystal
