Am I wrong to say that no matter where you buy the d70 etc. you can get the rebate form from Nikon site???
Just checking!!

You need to obtain the rebate form from the vendor where you make your purchase. The rebate form from the vendor has the name and address of the vendor on it and you MUST have that. The info on the Nikon site is just that, info, but not valid for the rebate.

Hope this helps.

Sent in one for my 24-85 mid september and Nikon told me nothing on their computer and there should be by now. They gave me a special address to send my copies too (thank goodness made a copy of the upc code.

Received my 28-70 AFS from one call (Huppins is the Nikon dealer they use) but there is only a tiny upc bar on the box with no lettering or lens description. Called one call and they said "yep, that is the one you use" and then double checked with Nikon and of course they are telling me "no way, doesn't sound like an acceptable bar code".

0 for 2! Hopefully need to get these resolved so I can use the rebates toward the D100 replacement.

Also found out B&H won't take back my Kenko 1.4 converter even though it caused problems when I used it with the 70-200 VR.

Not a good couple of days but a few basketball games to shoot over the Thanksgiving break and that will make things much better.

Hope this helps.

Gary, I haven't sent in the rebate yet on the 28-70 so I will take a look at the box when I get home and see what mine looks like.

I got my rebate for the 70-200 VR in about 6 weeks from Nikon. Oddly enough I had called on a Fri and they said it should be processed soon and to give the full time and then that Mon it was in my mainbox. As it was a check for $480 I sure was ancy to get it.

Sorry to hear about B&H. They aren't exactly my fave place to deal with but not as bad as Onecall is now. Blech!

L.A.,

Thanks, I would appreciate that. $480 in rebates! You must be going on a Nikon spending spree just like I am. No wonder why they are showing such good profits!

Gary, I checked my box and it is the same. It is also similar to ones I have sent into Nikon in the past and gotten my rebates on.

As for my spending spree, oh my...um...I have spent a TON since mid April when I got my D70.

I think the check comes from Nikon. I was told to call Nikon about my rebate on the 24-85 and they said it was not in their computer. They gave me a special address to write to for the rebate and it was in Mellville.

I think the form that indicates the retailer is probably important for fraud control or some other reason. The vendor does not cut the check.

My concern is the bar code. It lools like one was torn off on the box for my 28-70 but there is a very simple one on it with just the bar code and hopefully the serial number. This is from Onecall and if I am reading L.A.s post correctly this will not be a problem.

Gary
That's right! The rebate comes from the vendor with the
merchandise. I got mine yesterday.

The rebate form is from the vendor. The check comes from Nikon. Gary, my number on the box is the same way and that is what I am going to send in as well. It has worked for me in the past and I have faith that it will again.

Thanks for the reassurance, with what I have been spending I need it. Now I am thinking of what I need to be able to do portraits at home. In theory I am doing this so I can make the money to recoup my costs. At the rate I am soliciting businsess and upgrading equipment I project I will break even at the age of 137!

Gary, think long and hard before you walk down this path as it is something I have thought about as well. Anytime you open the door to someone you are welcoming a chance for something to happen. DOUBLE check with your home insurance to see what that will cover and then if this is a business you might need to look into additional coverage and well then that will affect the insurance you have on your equipment, etc.

Not trying to paint a dim pic as we are ALL in need of money after giving it all to Nikon. Just want you to be aware.

I am mainly thinking of doing portraits for those I already develop relationships with. For example, our female kicker may have me do a portolio for her because she wants to get into broadcasting. I have had other parents ask if I do senior pictures. The same goes for weddings, I will naturally fall into some opportunities from my sports clients.

And because of this I don't want to go hog wild on stuff for a studio. For backdrops I am going to see what I can come up with. I know there are a lot of things I can do with natural settings outdoors, but I would think being able to offer a simple portrait with a simple background should be part of a portolio or package. I am hoping I can create a simple studio for under 1,000. My goal is to break even in the next five years, in other words just pay for my stuff, and when I retire I will then start being much more aggresive in finding opportunities. Maybe by that time I can even have my own studio. If I get lucky and develop a relationship with some of our high schools and land the opportunity to do the team shots then I could easily afford the studio. Having a retirement income already will take a lot of pressure off as far as making a lot of money, I just want to at least make enough to cover the loss retiring at 62 instead of 66, but would be doing what I love to do.

As you can see I am a big daydreamer! Right now I just want to take little baby steps and make sure I am good at what I do and work on my reputation (probably needs a lot of work!). I will go very slow at learning the other areas like portraits and weddings, but I do want to be able to do that type of work in the long run.

And if I don't get back to work I may have to get way more aggresive finding work because I may not have the job I have now! So I am going to try real hard to stay off this board today. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving and thanks for all your feedback. I really value it.

Gary

PS: Plus I am going to make a point today to mail in my rebate stuff. I have had the bad habit of sitting on the stuff and when I finally get around to it it is too late or I lost something that had to be turned in. Can't afford to keep doing this!
