Hi

Longtime Minolta Dimage A2 and Nikon D70 owner. I just sold my D70 and although I really wanted a 20D I had to settle for a near new and mint used 10D and all I can say is it is exquisite. Hold my old Nikon and the 10D side by side and the 10D is quite a bit more solid. The cheap plastic on my old D70 is aparent even the D70 guys always say it is extremely high quality plastic, blah blah.. Of course if I post this on the D70 board I will get flamed 100 times and whipped to boot..

There is allot of very very hostile immature anti Canon rhetoric on the D70 board to the point of being really insane. Since I have been considering "jumping ship' I have perused this board for quite some time and I can honestly say there is a different level of civility and knowledge on this board. Actually the same can be said on the Minolta board too. Anyways, just thought I would drop in and say, woo hoo !

BTW, I bought the cam with the new SIGMA 18-125mm f3.5 DC lense and all I can say is this thing KICKS the sh*& out of my old 18-70 kit lense on my old D70..For a so called "cheap" lense its one of the best I have ever used as a general walk around and full time lense, sharp at all ends and is compact.

Cheers

probably right about getting flamed 100 times over there. I figured i could do it at least once over here....

i wouldn't say this is a true statement...there is some hostility and some immaturity but nowhere close to allot of it....definitly wouldn't say insane...

i own the 18-70 but have not used it in a couple of months....i agree that it's not the best (however, it is definitly good for it's price).... but that hunk that you just bought (the lens, not the camera)???... let's just hope that you're a great photographer so you can get a decent shot with it....

Please take your flaming elsewhere! Looks like you proved Paul 100% correct in his assessment of the D70 folks.

As a D70 owner that's had cameras (both film and digital) from most major makers (Canon, Pentax, Nikon, Kodak, Olympus), I think that I can safely say that .. sorry.. there's really not that much difference between Canon/Nikon, etc. It's all about what you do with the camera you have. I think it's a safe statement that there's at least one person out there with the 13 MP Kodak Professional model that takes crappy pictures. shrug Either you're able to capture great images or you aren't. It's rarely the camera's fault, regardless of brand. Which is not a bash to anyone, please don't think so. I think we've all met someone that buys a $1500 camera, and a $500 lens... and takes snapshots of the family dog.

But, the D70 folks aren't all nasty folks. I've run across very few that I'd say were nasty/rude. shrug

Interested in the lens you mentioned. Have heard good things about that lens before. Got any pictures to show?

well said Rob...i agree with you fully here....it's definitly not about the camera....if someone can take great pics on a D1X, they can do it on a 10D....likewise 1D on a d70....i could care less (well, i guess i might be interested...just not emotional) what tool was used to capture the image...it's either good or not so good....

am i being nasty here? or out of line? just talking but i'll go away if i'm being a pest...

LOL, my point is proven about D70 owners and it didnt take long either. I apologize to Canon people for inadvertantly dragging the trash from over there to here.... double LOL !!!!

Wow... seems really true what they say over at the D70 board, that the Canon boards are really hostile, and better avoided ;-) And before you start flaming me too, please note that I own both Nikon and Canon cameras (and Olympus and Kodak as well).

Anyway, just wanted to say that it seems a bit wierd that we get that upset or trigger strong emotional reactions when confronted with people owning another brand of camera or switches between brands. I mean, it's just a camera, isn't it?

P.S.: Just in case you didn't notice, the first statement of mine contains a smiley ;-)

yep, the faceless internet is like driving a car and road rage. People in Chevys wanna kill Fords and people with Nikons wanna kill people with Canons or visa versa, its quite a kick seeing people get all hot over nothing : )

Instead of simply coming over here and posting you have a new cam, you have to stir the hate pot about the Nikon forum, and stab them in the back with what you feel are such horrible posts. I just read all of your posts about how much you loved your d70, and how you never bash other cams or peoples choices, cheap plastic, ehh?, even you know better than that. What a backstabber. Good riddance to bad trash.

Sandy, if your female then excuse my rudeness.. nevertheless, so I am backstabber, LOL ! I didnt post on the Nikon forum so what do you care ? My D70 is still sitting beside me, its sold but in comparing the two the 10 it walks all over it in build quality, in fact my original post states that in build quality and comparing my cheap new lense to my old kit lense the D70 is all that, my Sigma just delivered from BH Photo is also a great piece of glass for $269 but I knew someone from the Nikon forum so arrogantly wrapped up in Nikkor would come on over and write it off too but thats soo typical, very typical of D70 users.. but it was inevitable that the TRASH would filter over here from that forum and your prime example so waaaaa waaaaaa waaaaa to you LOL !!

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that it was the person behind the camera that took photographs.

Who really gives cares what camera everyone else uses? Don't you think that there are more important things in life to be concerned with?

Why does it matter if you are using a Nikon/Canon/Minolta/Kodak etc. or if you are using a $200 camera as opposed to a $2000 camera?

As long as you are happy with your choice and it fulfils your needs, then you should not be concerned with anyone else's choice.

I don't think that it is fair to generalise D70 users as you have done - seriously, don't you think it is just a bit immature and pedantic?

Cheers
