Hello to all members,

Prior to joining this forum, I was a member (still am) of the Olympus group.

I currently own an Olympus E-20 and consider myself an amature wanting to better my photography in all facets of the art. It is an art isn't it?

To this end, I have decided to purchase a D70 for many reasons, including the reviews found everywhere, especially at DPReview and of course this forum..

The majority of my shots are taken on holidays, general sightseeing and sporting events, with of course many shots of home and family life. The D70 seems to me to be an ideal, versatile camera, which will handle all my requirements for years to come.

I live in Australia and can purchase the D70 as a kit, which includes the 18-70 and 70-300 G lenses for $2299 Australian which equates to about $1800 US,

I am not sure if this is a good price, although seems to be the best I can do in OZ. Perhaps I should consider importing from the US?

Anyway I am sure to continue following this forum and posting questions and hopefully may soon be able to answer other members queries.

Cheers for now

$1800 US seems awfully high -- they are selling stateside for about $1,000. It might benefit you to purchase here and shell out some bucks for the shipping.

Really? For the kit? Where?

Also, keep in mind that Nigel is talking about a 2 lens kit. The 70-300G is worth over $100 in the US.

Forgot to add - that the price you quote is at least $200 over-priced. For that price, you can have a higher quality lens (such as the 70-300ED) instead of the 70-300G. Also, the D70 now has a $200 Rebate when purchased with any Nikon lens (in the one transaction).

Here's the low-down on the $999 deal:
That's an amazing price, Joe, but it sounds too good to be true, and in my experience, that means there are strings attached...

Maybe it's gray market, which means Nikon USA won't service it, or maybe they're selling the battery, charger, etc. seperately for outrageous prices. I've seen both of those scams worked around low d70 prices.

Cheers, Kristine. It's good to see there is an Austrailian user group helping out the newcomers. Good show.

I've already bought mine, so it's not a big deal to me, but one of the posts on the thread said the dealer was a reputable one. One person said they had made purchases from them before with no problems.

I was a little shocked myself, since I paid about $1300 for mine about three months ago.

I guess we'll wait to see if someone posts a successful purchase at that price here on the forum.

I thought $1,300 was a bargain for mine. If this new $1,000 price is legit, I guess it's even more of a bargain.

I want a new D70 and 2 lens kit for 1000 bucks, I would buy another. I have never seen it at that price anywhere and I have looked.

When i bought mine I looked around, and if I had bought it from the US i could have quite well saved 200-300 AuD in the end (keep in mind you'll pay import duties as well as shipping), but unfortunatley Nikon does not have an international warranty on the camera, only the lens.

In the end I bought it locally, paid more but now i have a 3 year extended warranty. From these forums the d70 is quite durable but i just didnt want to risk it.

Hi, I'm also a new D70 owner and was trying to figure out where the $200 dollar rebate was coming from. I looked at Nikons web site and what's posted is $100 dollars off of the body and lens kit. By the way, does anyone know where I can find the rebate form? Nikons web site says to ask your Nikon dealer, but I ordered mine through the internet. Thanks for the help.
