Well, while doing the other one ("Another Cinema?"), decided to do a handful more from the bunch of Autumn images I caught recently. These are from around and inside Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Please do let me know what you think -- much appreciated. If you need EXIF data, just grab the link back to pbase (w/out the .jpg suffix) to see them.

I'd crop that last one
so you don't see the sun
only the lit leaves would be nicer I think

nice pics by the way, I like the first one

I guess it's a personal thing but the sun rays separate Man photo from all
the other ones done on leaves..... If you look at Man,s work he is unique
in the way he looks at life.... It comes out in every photo he presents.
Just my opinion....

I can see some possibly prefering that crop though not me. But I definitely appreciate this honest feedback nonetheless. It's always good to hear from different perspectives.

And thanks also for the kind words. Glad you like the 1st one.

And glad that you see that. Yep, IMHO, photography is about expressing one's own vision, views, etc., not merely making a few nice, eye-pleasing pics for mainstream sensibilities. They very often coincide, but not always.

Liked the last one best
but I am too voting for a crop
that leaves part of the light source
but not the too glowing part

of course it's a matter of taste

i also like the first one
though if it was possible i would love it
if the bus was in focus too
i like the very deep composition and
the large road "apearence" in there

I envy these fall colors
we don't have it here

Beautiful pics!! I am seeing more and more of a NY contingent here--lol.

One question--

Do you do anything to get these contrasty images? I change black points and play with contrast a bit but my out of camera shots are rarely this contrasty. I like these "effects" but would love to get them out of camera.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for sharing as always.

Not sure what this means. Do you mean crop out more of the dark part on the right side and maybe a little off the bottom? That would bring the swirling leaves closer to the rule of 1/3's or golden mean. I actually just might do that since I was wondering about that myself. :-)
of course it's a matter of taste
True enough, but it's great to hear different perspectives regardless of my own choice. Sometimes, other perspectives will help me in future images even if they might not for the current one in question.

Hmmm... I see what you mean although I prefer a little sense of 3D depth myself. For me, the bus is about right so that it doesn't fight w/ the foreground too much for attention while still being very visible. But yes, this too would certainly be personal taste, and I very much appreciate a different opinion.

Ah, I see that you live in Israel. While you may envy these fall colors, I might "envy" the deep humanity that you might have opp to experience and photograph -- this notion may not really be true, but I'm sure many folks w/ PJ aspirations might feel so anyway. The grass does always seem greener on the other side.

Kind regards,

Man

LOL! You don't say? :-) Are you from around here also?

I don't try to get them so contrasty straight from camera. Indeed, I tend to go the opposite a little by using fotogenetics' Provia curve when shooting. I usually end up needing to tweak contrast to some degree. But if you want this straight from camera, you should try the high contrast tone or a custom curve that yields high contrast. You might try Old Skool's Velvia curve for example.

However, I think it's always best to shoot w/ PP in mind even if you won't always need the same amount of tweaking. Get reasonably close straight from camera, and then apply a little tweak in PP. Depending on how you shoot and the given situations, you might be able to streamline your overall workflow so that you can use batch processing for some of those tweaks, if you're having a hard time keeping your PP up w/ your shooting. I'm trying to find that happy medium myself. :-)

Man
