Shot with my FZ10 from a plane window, of the Ground. Some say Nevada terrain is boring. I disagree! ;-)

Look at the play of the hues. Nicely done. No panoramic tries from up there?

No aerial panoramas, Gil, but I've got a great one of Sedona, AZ; I'll publish it when I get back to broadband hookup! Glad you like my Earth Art.

How fun John.

I'll bet the original file is a lot of fun as well.

Now, if we could just all afford our own jet liner.

Great post!

beautiful image - a terrainbow!

Geologically speaking you have to see it from the air to appreciate its uniqueness. This would be a good photo to illustrate John McPhee's classic "Basin and Range" detailing the Great Basin's "fractured" history. Great detail in the pic, it's like one of those 3-D relief maps. Man, what I would give to have an aerial view of the Ruby Mountains or the Jarbidge or the Snakes or...Thanks for sharing!

Best Wishes,

Steve

Hi John,

I love abstract and semi-abstract photography. There's something about this shot I really like very much, although it's difficult to put my finger on exactly what it is. It's just a very pleasing composition to me.

If I may nitpick- I would suggest only cropping/removing that small piece of land that runs in the diagonal line at the extreme bottom right of the photo. It's visually distracting, im my opinion.

Again- very nice photo. I am glad to have seen it.

Kind Regards,
Brian

This photo got a little bit of "Post Processing." When I imported it and looked at it on iPhoto in its "edit" mode, I hit the "Enhance" button. (It looked hazy before) What you see emerged, except for some sun flare spots that relate to viewing through the multiple sheets of plexiglas that constitute the 737 passenger window. Those I tried to heal in Photoshop. Glad you liked it!

See my response to Jay Cousins above for what pp I did do on the photo. As for cropping out the lower right, I liked the color it added to the spectrum of colors already there, so I didn't see fit to do that. But I'll think about it, and thanks for the suggestion. I'm glad you liked the shot. I find it very interesting to see all those vein-like lines on the Earth, where I guess trickles of water earlier in the year had established seemingly random yet connected threads of vegetation on the "barren" soil.

The things I like about driving through Nevada (most people find it extremely boring):

1) The spaces are truly "wide open;" and there isn't much traffic to distract your view, and it's very relaxing.

2) For me, I feel like I'm a part of a giant water-color painting, so large it extends from horizon to horizon in all directions.

This photo sort of captured the "water-color" feeling from the air! I'm glad you liked it, and thanks for your thoughtful comments.

John... I was wondering if/what post processing you'd done...

I shot a bunch throught he window too, from San Francisco to Chicago last August, and yes, the terrain is interesting.... though out of the camera the images were a bit muddy

When I first moved to New Mexico I had a current Private Pilot rating and would rent planes, fly around do some sight seeing. I now regret not having taking a LOT more pictures!

What appears as realatively boring toppgraphy from the ground is simply spectacular from a couple thousand feet up! Especially early morning or late evening when colors and shadows are in full play.

The down side is (at least here in Central/Northern New Mexico) if you had to perform an emergency landing you be SOL. All that erosion and mountainous terrain which looks so cool in the plane absolutely SUCKS as emergency landing areas! Hey, risks in everything these days.

Very nice picture, John. I guess it was very clean window and no haze in the air at all. I wasn't so lucky, when we've been in Vegas lately the weather was not so good for shooting from the plane and the window was dirty enough to ruin any attempts. But a year ago (we've been in Vegas 1 year ago also) air was clean and scenery was spectacular from the plane, but I didn't have any camera with me.

...I don't know what it is, but ever since I've had one, I feel NAKED without my camera within easy reach! Glad you liked the Earth Art.

Wonderful shot, John. Very soothing. Is this straight from the fz10? Agree with Brian on clonning out that bit of distraction in the lower rt corner.

Amazing image, John. I don't agree with those who say that the lower right corner shoild be cropped or cloned. I think it adds the necesary depth to the image. If it looked like the rest of the picture, the picture would appear flat. Good work.

John encourage me to post a couple of shots made through dirty plane window which was facing sun. We were on the plane going home from Las Vegas, Nevada, to New York.
This one is the area near lake Mead

These two were snapped later when we moved east, and sun was going down...It was already not Nevada, I guess.

George
