I noticed that the little anole lizards on the island of New Providence have an amazing range of colors and patterns. I tried to capture as many as I could, but they sure are quick little guys!

This first one is my favorite... and it appears to be either relly well fed, or ready to produce a new generation:

I think this one is a blue-tailed skink. The tails are amazing bright.

I didn't run across any geckos this year, but there's a few other interesting patterns in these shots:

The two above were taken with the UZI & B-macro, the rest in this small album are a mix of the UZI & FZ3. Click on the thumbnail to see the medium sized shot, a slightly larger version comes up when you click on the medium sized shot.

They're really cool and I love the pattern on first one. You're right. They are fast. What did you do? Sedate them? :)

If I'm not mistaken, the first one looks to be a female Cuban Brown Anole. The females have that diamond pattern on their backs and the males are more spotted. I just didn't now they were that far north. Maybe there is another kind with that exact same diamond pattern, I don't know. It looks like it has just shed the skin and that is when they are their prettiest. I have a female Brown that I rescued over a year ago.

Both shots are nice. The Skink shot is fantastic. They're gorgeous lizards.

Well, the Bahamas is pretty tropical... I guess that means the spotted fella in the album is probably a male. That explains why there were so many different looking patterns, I hadn't thought of the males and females being so different.

Glad you liked the skink shot, those buggers are so tough to catch. So, what did your little lizard need rescuing from?

Those are just wonderful, Sue! Very fine macros with great details. The colorful designs almost seem to be painted on yet only Mother Nature could do this!

Excellent macro photography and superb subjects.

BTW, my "Rare Butterfly" will interest you!

Regards,

****:)

Sue, LOL. Don't tell anyone this. I read your post (and sent out several mistake filled emails) without my glasses. I clicked on your profile and thought, "There's Anoles as far up as southern NJ? Hardy little buggers. I have my glasses and it makes sense to me now. You should see the responses to those emails. :]

The rescue: It was a stow away from FL when my Aunt moved back to Chicago. It was packed in a box and then in a cold sewing room from Sept 24th to Oct 18th of last year. When I found it, it was skin and bones and nearly dead. I nursed it back to health and she's doing great. Meet Bing. this was shot through the glass from across the room (the only way to get a shot).

and she sure looks healthy. I'd have brought back a boyfriend for her if I knew, LOL.

and I am so impressed by your daughter's work!

Isn't mother nature quite an artist also... It seemed like these decorative little jewels were just everywhere, disappearing as soon as I'd get close.
Thanks so much for your comments :)

The truth is, I have found that photography is one of the best ways to get away from mindless chatter... and to enjoy the beauty and details of wherever I happen to be. Trying to get pics of these elusive little guys became a fun challenge. There are very few bugs around to shoot, just loads of tiny ants which I would see these lizards snatching up for snacks. I think the only other bugs I saw were a couple of honey bees.
Thanks for commenting on my post!

You did really great...these guys are really quick!
