Does anyone else have a G1 with a Lensmate? Does it block your flash range?

Mine will leave a small unlit area on the bottom left of the frame.

I'm still waiting for mine, but recall it is mentioned on Lensmateonline.com that it does block the internal flash. It should not block the autofocust assist lamp or optical view finder like the Canon adapter though. An expensive camera like the G1 deserves an external flash anyhow.

It does on mine too. I just take it off if I have to do some shots with flash. I'm working on getting the external flash, then I won't have to worry about it.

FYI...

Tiffen is coming out with a lens adapter for the G1. I phoned DC Pro and they said it will out out in 1 week. You can buy it for $19.95 US. It has a 43 mm thread at the end (unlike the 49 mm on the lensmate). This COULD solve the problem. However...the second you add a lens onto the adapter you are screwed. But how often would you need a flash if you are using the Tiffen 2.0X ?

Good thing about this one is that it will accept Tiffen lens directly, No step down threads)

Hope this can help someone out...

Interesting you should say that. Yesterday I got the 420EX flash and I compared the external and internal flash. With the internal flash (and lensmate) I got the unlit area but with the external flash it was gone. Mark

Funny you should post that. The other day, I was at my daughter's school shooting pictures. Initially, I had my external flash and lensmate on. Unfortunately, my flash batteries died, so I was forced to remove my lensmate and use the internal flash. It was the first time that I had used the internal flash since the firmware upgrade. Suprisingly, it produced really nice results. I was able to shoot group shots with a reasonable balance of lighting. Apart from a little red-eye which I was able to quickly correct in PS, the pictures came out great with the internal flash. I compared my pics with those parents who shot with conventional film with the following results: G1 internal vs. 35 mm point and shoot= G1 hands down. G1 internal vs. SLR with onboard flash=G1. G1 internal vs. SLR with external flash=SLR. G1 with external vs. SLR with external=G1 had a slightly better uniformity of light (i.e. no hotspots, more natural appearing). I know that this wasn't scientific, but was I surprised!
