Has anyone used the R800 to print on canvas ? I have a couple packs of 8x10 Office Depot Ivory Canvas that I want to try but fear mucking up the printer. All comments appreciated. I think it would look pretty cool if the colors printed well and if it's safe to do.

Thanks Bill

How thick/heavy is the paper? Epson's own Premium Glossy is 10.4 mil, 252 gpm², but I don't see where Epson actually spec's max paper thickness in their documentation. For especially thick media, you may want to enable the "thick paper & envelop" option in the driver.

I finally decided to try it.

It didn't seem to damage the printer and the canvas accepted the ink but the resulting print was HORRIBLE . I think the problem with poor color and saturation was caused by an incorrect printer profile (I usedthe epson profile for heavy matte). Perhaps with a custom profile it would work well.

You should try it with the glossy paper settings. That said, most matte canvas will seem a little flat compared to other papers, especially black level. A lot depends on the canvas used too, haven't ever tried the OD canvas, so can't help there. You might want to try the matte canvas from http://www.breathingcolor.com . It looked very good compared to the other brands I have tried with my pro9500 printer. Only problem is that you can only buy rolls.

Is Ivory Canvas designed for ink jets - I couldn't find it listed at their website? If it is not, you may be able to salvage a better print by switching over to "Color Controls" in the driver and playing with saturation.
Good luck,
