Greetings,

I have been reading forums on DPReview for a long time now (since around the time the Canon G2 arrived).

Is anybody else concerned by the lack of images being posted on this forum? When other new/popular cameras have emerged, the forums seemed to explode with images that showed off the camera's capabilities. When the Digital Rebel emerged, there were tons and tons of truly great images. While I love reading about technical stuff, I am wondering why we are not seeing more images from the new 20D?

I have watched (with both fascination and sadness) this forum, and some others, develop a rather aggressive and even hostile tone over the past year. Perhaps people do not feel comfortable showing their work in this environment. Still, there are enough thick skinned folks and amateur/pros that we should be seeing more pics.

Thoughts?

It's the hardward man.

The pictures, the images are secondary.

This is okay.

If you want to see images, then try the gallery forum.

Not often you hear that from a real photographer, and although I don't know you, your profile suggest you are a professional... musta been tounge in cheek? ;)

Hi JT,

I appreciate your point. Yes, this is a hardware forum. However, in other forums, pictures are frequently posted to demonstrate aspects of the given camera/lens/technique/concern.

I was noting that, in the past, new camera owners were generally liberal in showing off their images. I suppose it is possible that folks are trying to keep the forum hardware specific.

Personally, I would love to see a subforum linked to each camera for pics/images. This would allow forum users the ability to ascertain the kinds/quality of images that are capable from a given camera or len. I value both kinds of information.

While some new users just like to "show off" their new toy, images can be extremely useful for technical reasons as well.

Best wishes,

It's because this forum is overdone, overhyped and overposted. I've leared over the past few months that the real clear thinkers post on the Canon SLR forum. Kind of makes sense, since the lens is what gives you the image to capture. I scan this forum from time to time but the lens forum is where its at.

I disagree. I have seen many pics from 20D's here. I think though that there seems to be an increase of problem posts and other such nonsense so those photos seem few and far between as well as they get puched to later pages very quickly.

But just to make you feel batter, I will give you a sampling of pics to help feed your need for more photos :)

Hello RJR,

Here is what I think about your observation on the content in this forum..

Many image posters choose not to suffer the high levels of rudeness and the endless equipment obsessed discussions prevalent on this forum. In addition, several of our forum members go out of their way to insult people when they post images here, advising them they are breaking forum rules by posting pictures in this forum and telling the poster to take their pictures to the samples and galleries forum where they belong because this is a gear forum. Well, guess what; it is a gear forum now, and not a very useful or interesting one at that.

This thread illustrates my point. Several of the posters in this thread should be ashamed of themselves. Small people with big keyboards.

I see a lot of hostility as soon as someone posts something others don't agree with and that's my observation too.

I read more than I post and this is one of the reason. Another is that I don't have all that much to contribute because I haven't taken a pic in 20 years and I've basically forgotten too much and time has passed me by.

My pictures these days suck but I'm hoping that I'll soon start taking better shots but again, there is a lot of hostility around here.

Take it for what it is (my opinion) and let's keep the flaming to a minimum.

(generally speaking) that I was referring too

People ask for criticsm but make it constructive. I'm pretty sure they don't say, hey, take your pants down and dump right on me.

That's not really criticism. Well, I guess it is by definition but they post pics here so they can LEARN from others, NOT to hear shi* like, "I would have deleted it!"

Love that sad look in his face like time has passed by and like it seems that nothing ever gets better these days, just worse..

What's it taken with?
A camera...

20D and Sigma 105mm f2.8 Macro. Beautiful lens but I sold it and bought the Canon 100mm. Focus was very slow with the Sigma and is much quicker and quieter on the Canon.

Hi RJR... let me ask you this... where is your photo in this thread? Do you just simply want to complain?

TheAmateur,

DPReview forums have greatly helped me make several camera decisions over the past 4-5 years. When a camera gets consistently good reviews in the mags (and by Phil), and I see lots of strong images on this website, I am ready to pull out my wallet.

I just ordered my 20D this morning. I was going to order it when it first came out, but the lock-up concerns had me worried. You see, I find the hardware/technical information on this site to be invaluable. When my current camera first came out (Canon G2), the reviews were rock solid and the images here were fantastic. It was, consequently, an easy purchase decision.

As I'm sure you know, the 20D reviews have been very, very strong. I was just expecting to see tons of great images posted here... this is what has happened with most cameras when they first come out. The intent was to elicit other forum users opinion about the difference between this forum and several others.

Hopefully I will get and post some decent images once my gear arrives. I am still making my final lens decisions. While I don't feel comfortable posting images of friends and family on the internet, those who recognize my name know that I have posted images over the years.
