Im hoping someone can help me out. Before I purchased the SB-800 I had a Promaster flash and a off camera TTL cord (Promaster also) , will this work with my SB-800 or do I need the Nikon SC-29 cord ? I seem to remember someone saying if you dont use the Nikon cord you lose some function.

Thanks,
Andy

The SC-29 cord has an AF assist lamp on the hot shoe mount. Otherwise, the SC-17 cord works. If your promaster cord is identical to the SC-17, you shouldn't have a problem. Since the contacts should be in the same place, there shouldn't be any problem.

The SC-29 doesn't work with the S2 and SB800 when using the shoe mount flash assist.

I tried with 3 different ones. Not Fuji nor Nikon had an explanation, other than the chord might not be 100% compatible with the S2.
The SC-17 works fine.

? i never had a problem with the sc-29,sb800, and the s2 combination.

I'm honnestly baffled.

What I would experience when using the AF assist of the SC -29, is a TTL misread and the photo would be repeatedly and randomly underexposed.
The problem stops when switching bacl to the AF assist on the flash.
I tried 3 different chords, 2 different cameras, and 2 different SB800.
Maybe I'm just cursed.... :-)

The only thing I can think of that might be in common is your batteries.

Hey everyone!...well I finally purchased the SC-29..and guess what?..I couldnt get it to work. Am I missing something? When I have the camera on auto and the SB800 on TTL I get a error message in the view finder. If I set everything to manual the flash works but the assist light doesnt..anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Ensure that the shoe is properly seated in the camera hot shoe. Lock it down. Make sure the flash is fully seated as well, and lock it down.

I'm assuming that everything is properly oriented, but I suppose it's possible to put the flash in backwards...

As for the AF assist, make sure the switch is moved so the prongs are up; the prongs need to make contact with the front bottom of the flash.

the Nikon SC-29 cord works like a charm with the SB-800 on my S2

could you have the focus assist option inadvertently turned to off in the options menu?
