I have been told this morning that the MAP(Minimum Advertised Price) for the E-300 Kit is $999.95. The kit will include the E-300 body and the 14-45 zoom lens. They have not given a definite date on the release of body only kits, just the lens and body kits. Deliverises will begin in early December. AS usual, no mention is made for Canada or Europe, they are separate divisions.

I would suggest you contact your favorite dealer for pre-orders because these cameras are not going to be plentiful for awhile. Please share the wealth amongst the many Olympus dealers. You may have some difficulty finding cameras at first. Thanks for all you patience. Jim

Jim,

Please add me to your list

Oh well - trust Olympus to price their cameras just a bit over what everybody (or, well, me) was expecting. I guess, with the limited initial supply, they can't really have a mad rush of buyers, so no point in pricing it low. I'm still getting one though - and that's what they've been counting on!

I am curious, how much were you expecting it, if you don't mind? About $950?

Thanks, Jim.

So if kit = $999, then a guess of $899 for body only is probably reasonable. No response necessary.

unbundle the kit, and sell the E-300 and the kit lens separately? If so, dealers would be able to create their own bundle with an E-300 and 14-54 lens kit. Any comments?

Did Olympus provide a MAP for the kit lens? Thanks.

About $950?
Well, I was hoping for about $800 - $900 - because of all the talk about the competition against the Rebel, the coming out N&C rebates, the coming US holidays (when everybody gets shop-crazy), and because cameras in US usually sell at lower prices relatively to the rest of the world.

But now that I think about it, E300 can't "take the market by storm" at any price because of the limited initial supply. So there wouldn't be a point for Oly to set the price any lower than they absolutely must.

The kit lens is selling for around $240, that would put the kit at about $799. As to dealers taking kits apart, my guess is Oly will box them together and if you pull the kit lens out, it won't have a box. That is only a guess from my experience. Jim

For interest....

Ted's Cameras in Australia are still showing the kit price as Aussie$1999.95 (today = about US$1500), I think Texas may receive a call!

Regards............... Guy

Thanks, Jim. If you decide to offer the E-300 separately or with the 14-54mm lens, I hope you will let us know.

I will not be purchasing the E-300 kit anytime soon at that price. I too was hoping for a price somewhere around $850 but now will wait until prices drop (and they should in the spring at about the same time that the 2nd coming of the DReble comes out), and the camera body can be purchased seperately without the kit lens. At that time I plan on purchasing either the 11-22 or the 50-200 with the body to go along with my E-20.

I was predicting or hoping for $949... so they were close. Real nice set up for what we've paid for point&shoots in the not too distant past. For those complaining more than me ;-) ... remember, you're not buying cheap plastic wanna be's !! (had to say that)

I just want the body though, and no big hurry since I have the E-1 so all yu boys & girls that are waiting to get into the E System.... I'll be patient.

Thanks for the heads up Mr. Porter !!

Are set by Olympus USA, since there's no Canadian distributor.

I met a couple of Canadian sales reps when I attended the E-1 seminar, but the cameras, as well as the rebates and OM adaptors, come from the USA.

JM Porter works for an Oly dealer -- you can bank on it.

I'm wondering if they'll sell for the MAP. Or will they be more at first, as teh dealers try to make an extra buck on a hot new product in short supply (not that I blame them any).

Well, I didn't know so I didn't want to presume he owned the place. I actually wrote it your way first and then edited it. ;) I'm sure he took no offense -- he does WORK there, right??

Seems fair; $999 for the E-300 kit is a bit above the 300D kit, well below the D70 kit. I wonder where a -ist DS kit will fit in? I have seen $900 body only, which suggests $1100 with their $200 18-55, though they might discount the kit down to that same sexy $999.99.

It is also well below the absurd $1100 camera-only price speculated at in the current Pop. Photo. Then again, PP still says that the E-1 started out at $2200, even now knowing that no-one ever had to pay more than $1800 for it (in the USA at least!). And one "2005 Buyer's Guide" still lists the E-1 at $2200.

Olympus needs to catch onto the Canon idea of only announcing "estimated street price" (MAP?) since MSRP is fairly irrelevant these days, and just causes an inflated, off-putting price figure to flaotr around. Perhaps they have, since I have seen only MAP, not MSRP for the E-300.
