Decided to go Canon 20D

After waiting a long time to move to DSLR I bought a Canon 20D. Though I have been very happy with my A2 with all the trimmings (the battery grip, accessory lenses, and the 2500D flash), I knew I needed more, so I got just the right financing to get the 20D and a couple new Tamron lenses. I must admit, there is a very obvious quality difference in the pictures, mostly in sharpness and just dynamic range. Much of what I was hoping for. Was going to wait for the D7D, but the deal I got was just too good to pass up.

Any suggestions on the best place to get rid of my Dimage A2 kit? Thanks for the help!

I have a A2 and I was looking at the 20D for my next camera, but didnt know if I should go ahead and step up to the high mp cameras, or if it would be plenty for me. I'm glad to hear you enjoy it so far.

sorry everyone,

i didnt know the rules when i made that post, i guess the word is out that i am a newbie! I have been reading on here for the past month or so while I am pondering purchasing a z3 for a trip to Africa and India.

I had a 10D already when I bought the A2. They complement each other nicely. The A2 is convenient and produces nearly the same quality in most circumstances, and it's a heck of a lot less to carry around. I tend to use the 10D more for when I need high ISO for low light conditions (with 28/1.8 and 50/1.4 lenses mostly) and better responsiveness for sports (with 100/2 and 300/4L IS lenses). It's a more sensitive camera than the A2.

Enjoy the 20D. I'm currently still finding the 10D satisfactory, but I know they made some very nice improvements in the 20D model, with regard to both speed and high-ISO image quality.

I like the 10D allot too and I thought when I bought the Nikon D70 that my A2 would be retired but I use it more than the D70 because it is much much easier to lug around and in most cases it can produce images equal to that of the DLSR except in high iso situations and where I need the fast bursty modes of the DLSR. My D70 with Sigma 28-300 is a PITA to lug around and on a recent trip to the Asia it was very inconvenient. I did bring home some wonderful shots though but trying to hide it from prying eyes was just too much of a hassle.
Enjoy the 20D. I'm currently still finding the 10D satisfactory,
but I know they made some very nice improvements in the 20D model,

Hi Dave

I also own an A2 and am iterested in acquiring a DSLR. Why did you decide for the Canon 20D as opposed to the Nikon D70? Courious about your arguments, which hopefully could help me making a decision.

Well the rational is somewhat practical, somewhat subjective:

1. I have had Canon's and have had no problems with them mostly S20, G3, G6 and now the 20D

2. 8.3 versus 6.x pixels, and very strong resolution, Canon cameras seem to provide the best resolution most of the time

3. huge assortment of high quality lenses available for Canon AF, just got an incredible Tamron 28-300mm XR Di lense that is amazing!
4. 5 frames a second performance, can you say baby 1Dx

5. Many of the features of the A2, less AS, but at 1600 ISO the images are very clean giving me a lot of handheld flexibility (goes upto 3200)
6. Very nice, and high, Speedlight, no shadowing on most lenses
7. VERY fast Digic II processing
8. VERY fast AF, .1 to .2 seconds...feels like that
9. 9 point AF, very nice and seems accurate so far

10. very sturdy build quality for a $1500 camera, got the kit which included an 18-55mm lense, good at 6-10 feet it appears
11. I got 2 year same as cash financing at Best Buy - nuff said

Phil just posted a full review for the 20D. At the very end of the review he basically states the 20D is the best camera in its class.

I think the 20D is a beautiful camera and I may rid my D70 for one, OR the new KM 7D. I have allot of Nikon glass but frankly I find the D70 without a grip to be annoying since for me the grip is very important. My A2 with grip is a pleasure and just as nice to use as my DLSR.
