hey guys,

having been through several different backpacks, i thought i'd share my experience.

for the past 1/2 year, i'd been using the lowepro computrekker aw. it's a fine backpack, well constructed etc. but it never seemed to ride right for me. having had back surgery a few years back (there was a time that i practially couldn't walk for over a year), i'm really fussy about stuff that goes on my back :-)

my quest continued, and after reading a positive review on the crumpler shrinkle

by a poster here on dpreview, i thought i would share my comments here as well.

the bag is everything that crumpler http://www.crumplerusa.com says it is and then some. it holds a ton of gear. easily a sony 828, flash, diopters, tele lenses, batteries, memory, cleaning supplies, laptop, and more! and most importantly, for me, it feels like a bag of air when i have it loaded down with all of my lenses and dslr. truly. it's the most comfortable pack i've ever owned. and, it's quite capacious, and i really dig the total customizability of the interior.

it's not cheap. adrorama sells them for nearly $200. but i can tell you this: it's built to last a lifetime, and if convenience, and comfort are important to you, then you should give this bag a looksee.

standard disclaimer

i don't work for crumpler, or any retailer that sells crumpler bags. i receive no remuneration, financial or otherwise, for making this post. i'm just sharing a positive experience.

That looks pretty interesing Andy. As it is now, whenever I take the train into SF for the day, I have my backpack with me; AND my Domke bag full of camera stuff. Anything to pare down what I'm carrying with/on me all day long.

That's a lot of stuff fitting into that bag!

I want a vest like Harry's since I don't have a lot of stuff...

extra battery,
3 filters,
cleaning cloth
extra sticks
extra CF cards
Tissues for allergy attacks
Sunglasses
hair ties (for when it's windy)

That guy did a fantastic job with his photos to document how he uses the backpack and how much stuff goes into it.

Seems like one of the differences to other backpacks is that the camera is not at the top but at the bottom of the backpack.

Might be a better weight distribution and therefore more comfortable, but does not seem very practical to me. You always have to open the total backpack to get the camera out.

Is that correct ? Can it be changed ?

i've been curious about them but had never seen them locally in toronto...

but now that my camera stuff has outgrown my current backpack (and the fact that i still use a separate backpack for my laptop) i'm really intrigued by the shrinkle...

but i'm really picky about backpacks too so i want to see one before i buy but luckily i found a guy 15 minutes away who runs a crumpler bag business out of his parents basement http://www.storeos.com so one of these days i'm gonna drive on over and check out the shrinkle in person...
thanks again for kickstarting my ongoing crumpler quest...

I'm using a 15 dollar leather 'purse' from walmart in which I used sticky backed velcro and a sheet of cardboard to creat a divider... and the 'wallet' pouch for filters etc LOL!!

I have had a Crumpler shoulder bag for a couple of years now and they are great. I liked how it doesn't look like a photobag.

They are also an Aussie company too, but a little too Aussie as can be seen by one of their recent promotions which I loved:

The first of the month I bought the Delsey 33; it was $155 through B&H Photo. PLENTY of room for everything; including room for a sweater or light jacket in the laptop compartment, if you aren't carrying one with you.

I took it to San Francisco for the day on Nov.5 & was wandering about all day long. It was really handy with me climbing all the ups and downs that day. Then on the train back to Sacatomato, I got my laptop out of the bag, popped in a movie (plugged in my ear phones), and before I knew it, we were crossing the Sacramento river.

PRO DIGITAL BACKPACK 31 / Cat. No: DL PROBP31

Very well built, comfortable, with rain guard that folds into
hidden pocket. Back pads and support topnotch.

yup :)

seems that some think i'm actually paid by these companies to write about my experiences. it's really sad that some folks can't see that i just do it to share something good.

sigh

on a brighter note, after using the bag for a while now, i'm really pleased with it!

go for it

i've been curious about them but had never seen them locally in
toronto...
I've only found one shop that carries the proper bags (not the tiny ones) here, it's called Set me Free, and there are a few locations. I used the one in the Beaches. I had them special order me in a Seedy Three courier bag, and the photo insert for it, which lets it be a normal bag or a camera bag. This was 2 years ago though, before the nice backpacks were out.

Crumpler's backpacks are out of my limited range due to new baby, so I ended up with a Lowepro Mini Trekker AW in time for my trip to england and scotland over christmas. The shringle looks super nice. Crumpler bags are super-nice. Great news about Storeos being nearby too.

Cheers.
