Came accross this at the Fuji forum- making quite a stir. Great how so many creative tools are free- someone put alot of work into this.

Sharpening trick "better results than unsharp mask?":
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1012&message=10798075

BTW, I am still considering getting an FZ3, but really would miss my F700's low light (ISO 800) capabilities. Can't see how one can shoot (even with IS) under normal indor light at ISO 100- doesn't this force shutter speeds of 1/8 sec or less? (I need 1/40th sec in most rooms at ISO 1600/1MP setting.) Maybe next version pana will use a larger sensor (or would this make the camera lens have to be bigger?)

Maybe I need to suck it up and have two cams...

Any FZ user will tell you that with OIS you can shoot static subjects down to 1/8th (or even 1/4 with the new FZs) with no real problems with a max ISO of 400. Any noticeable noise is easily corrected.

If you are shooting pictures of people don't they end up blurred at 1/8 sec or less (I'm not sure?)

Would someone mind posting what shutterspeed is chosen by an FZ in a normally lit room (75W incandecent bulbs) at ISO 100 and 200 for multisegment(average) metering. I realize ISO 400 is salvageable but I'd rather not have to postprocess too much. Thanks...

That info about how to use one of the settings for sharpening is very exciting! Thanks for posting this!

And anyone who isn't familiar with this free plug-in is in for a wonderful surprise. It's quite an amazing collection of effects.

Yep, a larger sensor means larger lenses, especially if you want to maintain the high speed. That's why long zooms for DSLRs are so big.

Nothing wrong with having more then one camera, if you need it.

It is a problem if they are moving. That's why I said "static". ISO 400 may introduce noise. This is not a real issue if there is lots of detail in the pic (when you don't notice it), or when printed. In any event, it can easily be corrected with Noiseware or Neat Image. Noiseware can be downloaded for free, and takes less than 4 secs to process an image. Not too much of a burden, I think.

This is a very versitle tool and lots fun to play with. I've been experimenting for awhile and have found lots of presets and created some of my own. Try different combinations of your own .

and if you do find something special, let us know, or the developer:

I am impressed that he checks the forums and really takes comments and suggestions about the program to heart.

I don't have an FZ camera, but the tiny brother FX-7. I think this is the very low lighting situation sample you have been asking for using the Mega OIS anti-shake function. This picture was taken by a lady hardly used any digital / film cameras before, with OIS mde 2 switched on. No flash, auto exposure mode, ISO80 snapshot at a dim Jap restaurant at Taipei. No post-processing except orientation and resizing.

Hope this help clarifying your doubts.

Could you please explain in simple steps how I get this plugin into elements2. I'm not great with computers
Thankyou

Thanks for the pic/exif. The results seem promising. I guess shooting at 1/4 sec is doable. I have taken lots of pictures of my pug, and obviusly she won't keep still, so I figured 1/4 sec, even with a tripod would be very fuzzy...
Hope this help clarifying your doubts.

There is a very good thread on how to install the program that I included in the original message.

Basically- click on download, save on desktop. Open program- this will make a folder named 'virtual photographer'. Put resulting file in the plugin folder (c drive-> programs-> abode-> photoshop-> plugins on my computer) or the plugin folder of whatever photo program you use.

There are lots of add-ons if you follow the 'extras' link. Download them, open them and then place them in the "virtual phot" folder that you put in the plugin folder.

The program is available under the "filters" menu at the bottom. Add-ons are accessable with the load button (withing virtual photo). It is very easy to use and play around with the effects.
