>>>Canon DSLR Challenge 26: Wide Aperture Part 2 + Voting thread<<<

I took the liberty of adding a new rule in the last challenge
"Please don't vote for your own picture"
Guess nobody scrolls down to the bottom to read all the rules.... ;)
Anna
I did spend hours on covering and recovering every aspect in my
challenge announcement thread
(
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=10211408 )
and still there was some clarification needed. I'm not very modest
bringing this up myself, I know, but I think it would be a good
starting point if copying... The one thing that needed
clarification was the bit about exif, which should have read:
  • Exif-information is not a must, but always appreciated. To
preserve the exif-information, please use the "Save As"-command
instead of "Save for Web". When updating an image in-place, PBase
will retain the original exif and therefore using "Save for Web"
can be used in that circumstance.

Same goes for my original voting thread post (

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=10373326 ) - spent a long time on getting it right and STILL forgot something:

Under "Tips and Requests" I should have added:
  • Please vote for images other than your own.

Thank you Anna for a great challenge. It was open-ended and very popular - lots of great entries!!! I think you did a marvelous job at hosting. I already told you this in private conversation, but here it is again in this public forum: I really liked your hosting style, well done!

Hi All...

Wow, I just got an e-mail from anyu saying that there was some conversation about my photos I submitted to the challenge.

First of all, I apolozigve if rules were broken. I had forwarded the voting link to friends so that they could vote for me. Geniebenie being one of them. Now, GenieBenie is my girlfriend, and I am close to her family. She was excited that I had entered my first photo challenge and had asked her brother and parents to vote for me too. They use the same internet connection on two different computers with the use of a router. This is probably the reason why the same IP address showed up.

She did mention to me that she saw in the rules that the same IP address could be used after 2 hours. Is this legit or not?

Myself, I did not vote. The rules stated that I could not vote for myself, so I did not. Nor did I vote for anyone else.

Anyways, just wanted to clear the story up. Sorry for the confusion.

FastFred

P.S. I hope I can continue to participate in future challenges despite this.
The other thread was full so I bumped up this message because there
isn't much time left:

Only one day left and there are certainly a lot of great shots in
both galleries. Wow it's going to be hard to vote. I checked and
the voting booth seems to be in place.

Just a point occurs to me...

So if we were to all do this, it might come down to who has the most family and friends, that wins the challenge?

I was lying in second place for many hours yesterday, I could have asked my wife to set up an account and vote, that could have pushed me up into first at that time...

It NEEDS to be the quality of your photos, voted for anominously and independently, that decides the winner of the challenge.

Anna, I just thought I'd add my thanks too. It was a great challenge and really got the creative juices flowing from everyone judging on the entries.
Oh yeah, and thanks for the vote too ;-)

Couldn't agree more, Adam.

I have a friend and colleague who I have encouraged to participate.

I have voted for him images, but only (as in this case) when I was so impressed I didn't even realise it was his - and I would expect himto do the same for me (in fact, I don't think he's ever voted for me!). Actually, I think as far as friends/family go, an image has to be of a much higher standard until it gets a vote, for fear of thinking you're only voting because of who not what.

I've even got to that stage with some of the regulars - Olaf, Iso, Joe, Angela etc, people I "almost" know, only get votes for really excelling their own high standards!

I understand what Fred did (hey, I did a similar thing when my image was POTD on Powershot), and I'm sure he didn't mean or see it as cheating, but it does rather all outside the spirit...

Hi,

Just wanted to thank everyone who voted for my pictures and Anna for hosting this challenge! Somehow I completely forgot about the deadline and didn't vote myself... :(

Congratulations Angela and Natalia on your winning entries!

The new theme sounds very interesting, I'm looking forward to it!

Best regards,
Arthur

Nevermind, Fred, we live and learn. I suppose it's an unwritten rule that you don't get friends to vote for you, because that's a biased vote. If you think about it, that's not really fair, because we don't have a lot of people voting and if you get 6-7 people rooting for you then it would tip the scales a lot. The IP address bit is secondary.
Let's go on to the next challenge.
Cheers/Anna

Since this is a competion, its more fun to participate when you do well...

So thank you very much for the votes on my picture.

2nd place, best so far.

Congrats to the winners

We are staging a photoshoot in copenhagen with vampires as a theme, but the shoot isnt until nov 21. kinda sad that the next topic here is dark and creapy. Think i could have participated with some interessting shoots.
