>>>Canon DSLR Challenge 26: Wide Aperture Part 2 + Voting thread<<<

... for them all to get the attention they deserve. I'm amazed at the number of excellent shots without a single vote. Obviously Anna chose the topic very well judging by both the quantity and quality of entries.
Oh, yeah... bump back to page 1 :)

It sounds like a cliche, but I had a hard time choosing just five. I felt that each of the 19 photos in my short list deserved a vote. Of those, one did not appear in the voting booth (presumably because Anna thought it would be impolite to win the challenge she was hosting), two have no votes yet, and five have only one vote.

I guess it was bound to happen. Those of you who have been here from the beginning are aware that from time to time there have been some a_ holes who have screwed around with the challenges... photos deleted, bogus photos posted, innapropriate hateful comments, etc...

Those of you who have already voted and can therefore look at the names of who voted for what, please have a look at the names of the voters for images #10361, 10365 and 10307. Also look at 10294 and 10390 - both of these later two have additional legitimate votes by people who use their real names and are well known to us.

It seems that either the same person logged in several times under different made-up names and voted 5 or 6 times, or we have several people who coincidentaly have the same taste in internet handles and also share an uncannily similar taste in photos...

I think it's pathetic and juvenile, but you take a look and judge for yourselves.

Julio, I read your post and went to check and found you were right. This is extremely disconcerting. :(

Well for the first two pictures, yes it's uncanny that they have exactly the same voters
[biytekmesuck]
[holister]
[skyblue]
[eels78]
[Jaytee]
[geniebenie]
These 2 pictures are by the same photographer too.

As for the third picture, it was Shu's picture and I think just happened to get chosen too by the voter with a split personality. Don't know how to prove it and if it's true then I think all these votes should be disqualitified.

Very, very bad

Well I looked around a bit more and thought about this scenario. What if there are 6 people sharing a computer, say members of a family? Of course it's NOT sporting to vote for your father's picture but in a technical sense it's not cheating???

Now I'm being generous and giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Please don't vote for your family or friends just because they're your family or friends, vote for the picture you really think deserves the vote. Or don't vote at all.

Anna

I checked the logged IPs:

biytekmesuck 65.50.158.141
holister 218.237.189.216
skyblue 218.237.189.216
eels78 218.237.189.216
Jaytee 24.101.156.26
geniebenie 218.237.189.216

I think we should ask Jack to at least remove the votes cast by skyblue, eels78 & geniebenie. That way there is only one voter left at the IP 218.237.189.216 (holister, the first one on that IP). If it is a case of several members of a family, let them come forth and tell us... Fast Fred has not voted himself...

I guess the first vote from IP 218.237.189.216 would be geniebenie, not holister (last on that IP). So replace geniebenie with holister in my list of votes to be removed.

Why keep the first one and the ones from other IP addresses? They were obviously in collusion, if not one person. This behavior should not be tolerated.

but its also an easier topic but yes, too many. I am guilty of skim voting because I do not have the time. I flick through them and those that grab my attention get an equal vote. Not the best way, I am sure.

Unless someone steps forward and provides an explanation I think all votes from this IP address should be removed.

If it is a case of cheating it is very sad, surely it can't be worth the risk for something as relatively unimportant as this?

Could we not just introduce a rule that only votes from other entries count? Or is this a rule anyway?

Mark, I agree that what has happened is totally unacceptable and very unfortunate, however, if there is a challenge that I haven't been able to participate in, but was able to vote for, I think my vote should be allowed. I'm not sure how to get around it unless you have to register to vote same as we do for comments on pbase challenges... once you have the password, you are known and therefore can vote.

What do others think?
