Just few days after rE550 review at DC Resource ( http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/fuji/finepix_e550-review/index.shtml ) here's another and very postive one:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E550/E55A.HTM

Here's from his conlcusion:

" With their 6.3 megapixel, 4x-zoom FinePix E550, Fujifilm has created what's to my mind one of their best digicams to date. Its color is very good, its resolution excellent, and noise levels at low ISOs are very low as well."

"When you consider the aggressive price that Fuji's brought it to market though, the FinePix E550 is a nearly unbeatable bargain: There's nothing anywhere near its combination of resolution, features, and image quality for anywhere near its price. If you're looking for a good-performing, high-resolution all-around digicam, the E550 would make a great choice. "

For objectivity he also noted shaky low-light AF performance and some lens distortion. In general after more than a month of E550 usage I tend to agree with Dave's main points especially about the value. His note about very high resolution also corresponds to what Phil Askey (our generous host at this site) noted in Sony P150 when comparing it to E550 and other cams.

Be sure not to overlook Dave's detailed image analysis ( http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E550/E55PICS.HTM ) made on his studio subsjects under control conditions so it's easier to compare images from different cams. In analysis for some test shots the reviewer also mentiones CA and limited dynamic range. So review is pretty ballanced and detailed. Good read, imo.

I would assume
on his resolution tests he wes shooting at 12F.
That was my impression also. In hist detailed test shots analysis he constantly mentiones interpolation that captures tremendous amount of detail though each detail may appear "soft" when viewed at 100% on monitor but will print extremely fine. I doubt he ever tried 6mp mode as the other reviewer at DCResource did (and, like myself, liked results better).

Ya, they're definately 12mp shots - but not sure if F or M.

Personally I too prefer the 6mp shots. I can definately see some opportunity for using the 12mp (taking a wide spaning landscape off a tower for example) but I suspect if/when I do so, there will be a fair amount of post-processing to get the pic to suit my likes. Still, its great to be able to have that option.
