Can someone tell me if standard circular filters and telecons fit the FZ20 lens directly and if so, what is the thread size. Also, if this is so, does any member of this forum have experience with the 10 or 20 using either the Oly B300 or Tcon17 1.7x telecons?

Would any current FZ20 macroholics like to point me to some personal galleries so I can take a look at this camera's output. I'm not talking about just an occasional macro snapper here.

72mm.

You will need an adapter. See the "Adapter Tubes" pages in the "Converter Lenses" section of my FZ-10 user guide. The FZ-10 and FZ-20 share the same set of adapters and lenses.

Hi Denis,

I have the FZ10,

The filters etc (72mm) attach to the Panasonic lens hood not to the lens.

I have the Tcon 1.7 and use a 72-55mm step down ring. It works great with the FZ10

For macro input take a look at http://www.nzmacro.50megs.com Danny is a master.

Regards,

Pixy.

The lens does not have threads so the adapter screws into the body and surrounds the giving you a mounting position. I and many other users feel that the FZ adapter places the lens and filters to far from the front Leica element. They use third party adapters to attach Lens extenders to the camera. I have an FZ10 with a 62mm custom adapter Tcon14B and Wcon08B I think the Nikon 6T will also fit 62mm.

http://art4less.smugmug.com . The flowers, nature and insect galleries were mostly macro. Also the featured gallery is also in macro. Not that deep macros but not casual macro shots either. All taken with FZ10 or FZ20.

Thanks gil. Some excellent shots there. The FZ20 review was also worth looking at for some specifics.

Not exactly what I wanted to hear re the filter threads, bummer that size!. However, I assume that with the third party mounts available some of you must be using them. So, what, if any, is the amount of vignetting like taking the filters down from 67 to 55 or 52mm. My current A1 has no problem generally but my cir pol certainly vigs at wide angle. The B300 fitted direct also vigs at full zoom (200mm). Forgive me a little here folks as I have no current experience with the FZ's or with cameras where filters do not screw directly to the lens so any actual experience or full frame shots would be appreciated.

Basically, I use mainly culs individually or stacked, from +1 to +5 and +10 dioptres and on occasion with a 55mm mount ring-flash system or twin-flash. These are often used with the B300 1.7x telecon as well. At the other extreme , full zoom and B300, is there any available zoom range left before any vig'ing steps in or does it vig at full zoom anyway.

These are important points to me before purchase and all help and comments are appreciated.

How are you Denis :-)). Macro is serious of course. The first thing I did with the FZ10 was to add a filter thread to the front of the lens. With a bit of careful grinding, it fits. Tight but it works.

If someone does do it, its on their head. The lens is motor driven and the motors for just driving that lens is not that strong or powerful, so care needs to be taken to what is added (weight wise) to that thread. I always extend it, then screw what ever is needed at the time. mostly added 35mm slr lens for large macro ratios.

Examples : http://www.nzmacro.50megs.com/fz10/fz10.htm a page not really exposed much yet, still working on it.

So in short, yes it can be done. Macroholics need to be careful though for sure. I've never cared what a camera looks like as long as it does what I want, so the Sony and FZ10 are treated the same way.

All the best Denis :-))

With a 62mm adapter (I use the Yoshida) and 62mm filters, there is no vignetting. The lens element goes right up to the front of the adapter, so there is very little, if any, light loss. I leave the 62mm adapter on all the time, and generally mount a Nikon 6T, a protective filter, or a teleconverter.

With a 55mm adapter (once again, I have the Yoshida) stepped down to 46mm, there is very little vignetting at full wide, but some noticeable vignetting at medium to full zoom. I mostly use this setup with a Nikon FC-E9, which you would expect to have issues.

I have not tried the 55mm adapter with filters in that size, so I can't report anything there. Once again, the lens element is very close to the front of the adapter when deployed, so it doesn't seem like there would be too much vignetting with filters in that size.

Ching-Kuan Shene's page says it all, really:

What kind of filter/size are you using? It seems you directly screw the filter to the lens.

Please advise.

I'm interested in your eyecup. Where did you find it and how is it mounted onto the EVF?

Its a 55mm filter with the glass taken out. It has had a slight bit of sanding on the thread to make it fit, getting it off would require cutting :-)). not something that really worries me because its there to stay for sure. I would never recommend it, but it works for what want.

All the best and its up to you :-))

A Canon eye cup which fits tight. Off either the Canon A1 or T90 35mm slr's. From what I've seen here, many are using a Nikon eye cup......I think.

All the best Vandyu :-))

Read The Fine Manual
ROFL!!..................thanks for that. What I have been able to download so far doesn't seem to give sufficient detail for a prospective purchaser I'm afraid. There is no info like hands on info!
