I have had my coolpix950 for a while now and everything was working just great. However, last week I purchased a wide angle lens and now all of my photos are coming out VERY dark. I have tried to play with the lighting available (natural and other) but the results are quite disappointing. Any suggestions. I use the camera on A rec because I am an extreme novice with photography and don't really have a desire to become a great photographer I am just using this for work. But so far the new pictures are unusable, I need some good suggestions, preferrably without having to purchase more equipment (if possible) such as a n additional flash etc. Please help, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

The picture you link to , doesn't seem to have much of a dark problem?

Try this. Manual mode only.

Change the metering to center weight and/or spot. Any difference? Sometimes the matrix meter can read things at the side of the shot that cause a lowering of exposure.

Still no go? Check to make sure you haven't set the AE Lock and left it on.

Not happy yet? Make sure the exposure compensation didn't get stuck on -2.0 EV or something like that.

That wasn't it, eh? How about the IMG Adjust? Is it set on Darken?

Oh, drat. Shooting flash? That Wide angle adapter (You DID spring for the Nikon WC-E24 didn't you? Other ones aren't as sharp.) is blocking the flash.

No joy?

Can't help you.

So what's the asking price?

It seem only the 360 degree pix are too dark. Maybe the exposure is being fooled by the lamps? Try turning them off?

iNova's suggestions make most sense.

good luck

Hello Hello:

I'm a 950 newbie as well, and I had the same dark luck, using my Tiffen wide angle lens on the camera. My problem went away when I (In M-rec mode), went into the menu options, scrolled thru the first page, got into the second page, and hit the LENS button. In there, is an option to set for telephoto or wide angle. Use the wide angle setting and your pictures should come out much brighter, although they may have a yellow tint on them. You can fix the tint in Adobe or any other photo editor.

Hope this helps.

Another reason you might be having a proble:

When you attach the wide angle lense, view the front of the camera. If it is anything like my wide angle, the flash is being blocked by the lense(same with my telephoto attachment. The only way I found around it is a bracket and an eternal flash.

Unfortunately I couldn't take the pic with the camera on it(had to use to take the pic, but will when I have the film developed.

Use M-mode, then select wide-angle lens in the lens item of the menu. This enable the 950 program to set appropriate exposure with the effect of wide angle lens counted.
