Hi all,

there has been alot of discussion about the microdrives. It seems that without the lipro, the 350 might be the best buy and work best in the camera.

would this be right as I am about to get one.

thanks

Hi David,

I can't say anything about the 1GB version but the 340MB I bought has worked fantastically from day one, even with 1300Mah batteries. It really is essential for this camera and I can't for the life of me understand why Olympus will not sanction it's use as it clearly works fine in the E-10. Though a word of caution - try before you buy, I bought mine locally specifically so that I could prove to myself that it worked without fault.

Colin

Hi Colin,

Thanks. Good advice.

Hi, Dave. I bought a 1GB that gave me nothing but errors in my E-10. However, it works perfectly in my E-100. So it does appear you have to try them, although I don't know how you can easily do that. K.

I have the Li-Po grip and use 2, 1gb microdrives with no problems at all :-)

Colin and K,

Seems like I have to heard alot good about the 1 gig without the LiPro which I don't have although I have a set of those killer sanyo batteries comming. I must say that I have been using RadioShack 1600 and they work great!

Anyway back to the point, what I think is the the 350 might be the best. Think I will drive (1.5 hr) down to Norman Camera and try one out.

thanks for the advice

Dave:

I have had no problems using the 340 MB MD I bought in January with 1600 mAH Kodak and Maha NiMH cells, although I don't use it all of the time. Like Colin, I keep a Smartmedia card in the camera just in case.

Dave,

No involuntary glasses removal yet thanks to your warning - I take my glasses off when I use it. It looks like it could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch! BTW, I bought my MD from Cititronics in a bundle with a PCMCIA card for a little more than $200 - a pretty good price. They have some other attractive bundles or the bare drives if you prefer. Don't know about their return policy though.

Regards, Jim

PS - Do you by chance use a PDA such as a Palm Pilot? I've ordered some fingertip styli which sound really neat and I'll be glad to send you one if you would like it (they come in a three-pack and I only need one.) Let me know.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the tip. I think I will go to Norman cause they are within driving distance.

I use a cassiopia. Thanks anyway!

DAve, since I started shoot at the Tiff level, I am up to 4 340 MD's and I have only had problems with one of them, giving me errors at the same spot each time, so I ran it through norton utlitites, and Bham! no more problems...

they work great for me..

This is interesting. Do you do tiffs as your preferred setting now.

PS

I am in with the MB and will get one (some?) soon.

yes for awhile, I am also trying the shoot at high res jpg and then convert to Tiff, that = 10 meg - 11 meg file. And working from that!

My experience with the MD is totally excellent.

I use the 1600Ma MAHA batt pack from Thomas Dist. at all times. I have

2-- 1gig MD's that I just used on a 2 wk trip where I shot > 2000 images without the slightest problem. Both MD's worked perfectly right

out of the box, again using the batt pack mentioned.

Also I think the 1 gig MD is a better buy than the 340. Check ebay.
The MD is a super product. Imagine starting a shoot with the
capacity to shoot 381 low compression jpg's ( 2.5 MB) images. These
images will print at
10x14" without the slightest trace of grain.
It doesn't get any better than this!!

Colin,

Something I've never seen in a microdrive discussion is where the heck does it go. Your post makes it seem like it fits (via adapter?) into one of the media card slots. I ask because I get a recurring picture of the E-10 with "just one more thing" extras as an ever-expanding octopus-like monster.

TIA

chuck,

the 1 gig is a better buy and you seem to be the first to have such a positive say about it with 1600 bat!
