Jane's Addiction

Hi Steve,
Nice pics, but....

There is alot of saturation in the lights. Were you using a flash, or suppressed? I'm not sure about the blurring, was this intentional or could you have used a faster shutter speed.

A fill flash would have worked nicely I think on the second picture.

But this is just my 2 cents worth.

Cheers
Richard

Richard,

The photo pit rules included no flash. The flash that's in the first pic didn't come from my camera, but I liked the effect.

I had the ASA bumped up as much as I could, and was wide open on aperture. It makes for tough shooting conditions.

Well, that and getting jostled by too many people who had snuck in. :)

Cheers,
Steve

Steve great shots, the 990 does not do bad at concerts at all, here
is a link to a Hot Tuna alblum I shot. I have taken many shots at
many differnt concerts using the 990. Click on each thumbnail to
see a larger version.

Mike,

Those look good. It looks like you had more time to shoot than I did. (They booted us out of the pit after two songs).

Honestly, I shoot mostly two-wheeled action stuff. That was my first crack at a concert with the 990, and I had a ball.

I'd love to use a flash, but the rules wouldn't allow it. Hey, maybe have someone hold one up from the side of the stage, with an electronic slave. Hmmm... :)

I think I'll take a peek in the ebook and see what I can find out about bumping the ASA higher, too. :)

Cheers,
Steve

I dont know if you have Inova ebook but there is a fliter for shooting at higher shutter speeds and then using photoshop to boost it to like 1600 ASA. These photos are untouched out of the camera. I have some photo passes to the upcoming Phil Lesh show, so I will be in the pit for that one.
