Torn between D70 and Drebel

Everytime I think I"ve made up my mind, I look at something else and get confused again. The D70 sounds like a great camera, but the forums for the Drebel many times contain pics that are just stunning compared to the D70s I see out there. I know that ISO100 can make a difference, but didn't think it would make that much of a difference?
What to do? What to do?

Click on the Galleries link and go through the photographs for each camera. Then print a couple of photos for each camera and see if that helps you decide.

"The proof is in the pudding"...if you like the pictures from the DRebel, then get that camera. I get the feeling that you are hesitant because the DRebel is silver and not as "professional" looking as the black D70. FYI, the DRebel is also available in black if that helps. Personally, I think both cameras are great and you really can't go wrong with either.

the quality of the shots also depends a lot on the photographer. Some of the people on this site were born with a camera in their hands. If I only had a 10th of the skill of some of these people. So don't judge a camera just by the shots here. You need to go to a store with a memory can take a few test shots yourself and then take them home and decide.

The proof of the pudding is in the tasting. So, go to a picture taken with a rebel, lick your screen. Do the same to a D70 picture. Which tasted better?

posted here, as they are not the gospel on which has the better quality. They both are capable of stunning results, with the D70 with better specs and build, the Canon arguably with the better lens system. Handle both if you can, decide on the system you want to buy into, as you will probably upgrade to a better model some time down the road.

Here are my thoughts, based on tradition. Get Nikon if you want workhorse cameras and you are a fan of wide angle and macro photography. Get Canon if you like cutting edge and you are a fan of telephoto (especially if you are a telephoto fan on a budget).

........ either a better camera or Drebel owners are better photographers, well my motto is the gear makes the guy or gal. But a really good photographer could us anything, and still if you think the Drebel looks better, then I think your vision is clear.

Honestly, you are some piece of work. Do you EVER stop?

Go to a shop and have a play with both cameras. See which one you like the feel and operation of more, and buy that one. Simple. There is no technical difference between them that will make any significant difference to how good your photos are.

Actually, I think the reason you are seeing better shots in the forums from the Canon is that it is cheaper and somewhat less "professional looking". Therefore people who just want to take pictures and don't get obsessed with the technology may tend to find it more appealing. The gear-heads who concentrate on equipment not taking pictures will be more attracted to the Nikon.

--Have friends that have both the rebel and the Nikon D70, comparing the two cameras side buy side, there is no comparison. The Nikon is far more superior in quality , feel, and built. Sliver rebal looks like a toy. Of course that is only my opinon. Take it for what it is worth. They both give comparable photos. Get the system that you like, hold and shoot each. Your camera store will let you do that.
NO,NO, I do not have a D70, only have the D2H......

Thanks to almost everyone for excellent responses. After careful consideration and playing around with both for a while, I bit the bullet and bought the D70. Seemed to be a better all around fit in the hands. Let the picture taking begin.

.... I see no relevant content in your reply hare, do you like your posting privileges?

I have marked you recent responses and I will have not hesitation is reporting them.

Do you think I honestly care whether you have marked them are not?

If this is some kind of threat, it is just the sort of thing I expect from you.

Do whatever you want Ger Bee, I really don't mind one bit either way.

See Ya

Personally, I think you are in good shape with either. Both of them can take super photos and both have a great selection of lenses. Both cameras are fantastic value for money.

I bought the D70 and I'm delighted with it. For me, the build quality seems to be a step up from the dRebel. Costs a bit more, but I thought it was worth it.

As others have said, check them both out and buy the one that feels best for you. There is no wrong choice here, so you can't lose!

If they are stunning to your eyes, why ask? Go buy the 300D.

Enjoy,

I was torn between those two cameras, and decided on the 300d. I'm very pleased with my decision.
