Looking for professional ringflash glamour photos!

Janosch,

Most of the ringflash work that I'm familiar with is macro. There have been several good examples in the past posted on both the Sigma forum and Canon forum.

For what it's worth, Sigma just recently announced their new ringflash unit - looks interesting. It's on my wishlist.

Have done a search but there were not so many samples...Do you know
some pros that shoot with a ringflash? i cant find any good samples!

janosch,

..1300 or so for the flashhead alone - not to speak of the pack (i would need additionally)...

normal ringflashes are usually too weak for glamour style shooting. i am currently investigating putting together 4/5/6 el cheapo strobes arranged in ring form - potentially have to add a color correction filter to match to the output of my elinchrom monoblocs but i.e. GN 100 times 6 should give me decent output at a fraction of a "proper" ringflash cost.

some more weight but the reflectors can probably be seperated from the attached electronics to make it more portable/handleable.
cheers

Please just forget macro-style mini-ringflashes for glamour work. They are just not powerfull enough! Basicly it's a joke. Check out the guidenumbers.

The ringflashes we use have around 3000 Jules and weight in at 2 kilograms. That's the deal. Those tiny sigma and canon ringflashes can maybe be good for flowers or bees, but just forget them if you need some powerful light from the distance.

Cheers

Canon 1Ds,Powerbook 17'---> Shooting RAW (Ofcourse)

If you have access to the latest issue of Esquire, it's the photogrophy issue. Inside they have a photo of a long-time Playboy photographer (spacing on his name). The photo includes a camera with a HUGE ring flash light. Obviously it doesn't work on AA batteries.

I remember seeing Bathing Brooke: The Making of Brooke Burke's 2002 Special Edition Swimsuit Calendar on E (US cable channel). Richard Hume was the shooter and he used a ringflash. I emailed him and he told me he used a Hensel ringflash for the shoot.
Brooke's 2002 Swimsuit Calendar is an excellent example...

Bought a couple dvd's -making of - latest playboy swimsuit calendar- and nuther issue- Girls of Walmart- shooter used a Profoto ringlite as main source.
I rented one to test- It's an armload - off a tripod- with soft reflector.

For glamour- think I'd rather stick with more controlled lighting- guess it's OK for fill - really need to do more testing. It is nice not to have to worry about
misplaced facial shadows if model is moving a lot. Fashion & such.

Having lighting ratios change as I move in is a headache - with prime lens- probably best on a tripod and really good zoom lens. It's a whole new learning ball game for me. ( Profoto or Hensel repl lamp assy is around $500 - (yikes.)
