I have had my DR for just about 1 year now (Oct2003). I am very still pleased with my camera and the quality of shots I get. I have since the purchased got a 70-300USM III lens and the 550EX and really enjoy using it. My entire family is always impressed at how clear and crisp the images are...even without Post Process.

I have never had any lockups, weird noises, Err02, Err99 ,etc. A very fine piece of equipment.

I have had mine since Fe 04. The only issue with it is that the rubberized grip is starting to peal off. Canon service informed me that this is covered under the warranty and I have an addl 3 years with Best Buy. So I will send it in after the holiday season for service.

The more I use it the more I learn.

Recently I attended a workshop that gave me a great opportunity to photograph some great subjects.

It's also a year old now and going strong. I'll probably not upgrade until something with 18 megapixels or so comes along that also has the other great features of the 300D.

Why 18? I find that 3X the pixels makes a serious improvement that makes it worthwhile to get one's wallet out. 8 doesn't do it for me.

I know; it's more than the MP that matters. I would never downgrade important features just to get more MP.

I wonder, I've not received my 300d yet and may have to wait a while (ordered from UK Dixons!) but I would guess that the most sensible upgrade in the future will be to get a 35mm equivelant size sensor so that the crop factor issue is removed. Sensor quality is paramount, and ultimately pixel count simply determines how much you can enlarge/print a shot.

Does this make sense?

Absolutely. An 18 MP, 35 mm sized sensor camera from Canon would be the one for me.

Cost, of course, will be rather high ... for a while. I think such a camera is due in a year or two. An affordable version for serious amateurs (or neo-pros) will take another year. My guess. I don't want to start any rumors.

Its only 16.7MP with a Full Frame sensor so I don't think it will take a year to add 2MP. But, affordable? if 8K is your budget for a body...

I'm happy with my 300D for now.

Even afer a year I'm still impressed of the image quality. Berfore the 300D I was playing for 2 years with a very noisy and blooming 2 Mpix camera. For me it's not really the 3 times higher Mpix that makes the pictures look great, it's the low noise.
Now I'm shooting a lot with my new 50mm 1,4. It's really a great toy.

I have had my 300D since november 2003 and has only small complaints.

I had some confusion about AF and how the 420EX was working. But after I installed the latest wasia-hack I have got full control over the camera.

I think it's a very nice camera and together with PhotoShop CS I feel like I have got my darkroom back - just without bad smelling chemicals.

The quality is almost as good as filmcameras and in some cases better because you can change the ISO. If you are shooting RAWs and learn how to process in PS CS you can sometimes get better results than with films.

New 300D users, please read the 300D FAQ first! Chances are that your questions have already been answered: http://www.marius.org/cgi-bin/fom?file=68

I also am quite happy w/ the camera, and with the altered firmware it's even better!

I don't really consider the 1.6 crop an issue. It is merely getting used to it. Only time I really notice is when indoors & other conditions where you want a wide angle.

6MP is quite good for the bulk of work I do. How many owners of 300D would truly make use of 12+MP? And the cost of the full sized sensor I don't foresee coming into the 300D price realm soon. It's more the size than the MP that is the problem. Higher res does give you more range to crop & enlarge, in effect like a digital zoom, if your lens didn't reach as far as you wanted.
Perhaps eventually I may pick up a 20D if i can afford it.

a great camera no problems at all

Well said JSRomero.... one of the better posts I have seen on this forum lately. When you step back and look at the DR, you can still say (even after a year of tech advancements) that you have a reputable, flexible, well-made product that does what you expect it to do and provides the results you should expect for the money you paid..... it is that simple. You want more, then buy the D20. You want what you actually paid for - then use and MASTER what you paid for.

I got my DR in June 2004.... I have become a better photographer at a good price....

Quite pleased.

I've had mine for a year now and everything has been excellent. All the people around here think it does an awesome job but i havent had much luck with this forum. When i post a shot i may get 1 or 2 people that reply to them but some people can post a real terd and everyone kisses their @ss.....thats why i dont post pics here anymore. I've entered 3 photo contest's locally and took 2 firsts, a second and a third so thats all that matters to me.

Don't be so hard on the forum, or yourself of that matter, it does seem inconsistant the replies that one gets when posting photos, there are a lot of variables that also play a part, such as the time of day you post them, or if some other hot topic is getting a lot of attention. It can be the luck of the draw, and while I do agree that some forum "bigs" might get an inordenate amount of praise, it's no reason to stop posting photos, in fact it's kind of a challenge.

As the subject says, mine will turn 1 year old on Saturday, and its been a GREAT first year. I still love it today as much as I loved it the first moments after bringint it home. It's worked flawlessly for me since day one.

I'm up to 6837 photos with it, and I have at least two if not three football or four games to shoot on Saturday, so I suspect I'll easily pass the 7500 mark.

Heres to another great year with my camera!
