Good point Ed,

Larry
Its nothing but the Price for me to me urge to know, and the software too. Also do the AFD can still plug their new back.

Seems you guys so happy for Mamiya launch their DB/Cam. 22mp; Its the same main stream 22mmp chips neither K or D. SO I don't know when the real products can down to earth. (Its not worth to made same size ratio 22mp chips oneself especially both K & D will soon launch their next 7um 33mp chips soon.)
I don't want to wait this Back just like their AF 26mm.

Exactly how much in U.S. $$$ is $10K Euro?
12,315.18 USD at today's conversion rate according to
http://www.xe.com/ucc/
Usually we of the dollar persuasion usually get a break (I think
Japan feels sorry for us because Europeans get six weeks of
vacation and a lot of us over here wouldn't know what a vacation
was if it bit us), and $10,000 (or $9,995) sounds good, so I
suppose that'll be the price. If so, that's a deal. Now if they
just made a Tilt Shift Lens.
When posting I was thinking about a sentence about prices in Europe vs. the US - but being European I was so demoralized I didn't do it... ;-))

But no matter what the exact prices will be in different markets at the end, it sounds as if the ZD could introduce a steep decline in prices - also the concept of a relatively small and lightweight all-in-one MF DSLR is very interesting.

If it will gain a good (relative) market share - and I think it will - I am sure there will be lenses like a TS lens somewhen in the future.

What I would miss is an interchangeable viewfinder.

One little glitch for those of us in the U.S. is that Mamiya America is in partnership with Creo in Leaf. The Mamiya rep said yesterday that it was possible they may not import these Mamiya products!!..EC

Where there is a niche, it will be filled. I'll be at the PhotoExpo in NYC next month. Some one should know the answer to this one.

Not that they have much choice; all the latest sensors at 17MP and 22MP for medium format are 4:3 aspect ratio; the only other option bigger than 35mm frame size is a 16MP square from Kodak.

One possible exception: Fuji has talked about a 20MP back with 1.41 aspect ratio, the shape of ISO standard papers like A4, A3, A2, ...

the method of transfering the data off of the chip. It's a full frame transfer sensor vs. and Interline transfer sensor. The full frame in this case does not refer to the physical size of the chip.

Michael
"Full Frame RGB square-structured 48 x 36 mm CCD"

Doesn't 645 mean 6cm x 4.5 cm, in which case this is not "full
frame" for a 645?

If Kodak uses the same 6.8 um pitch found in Olympus E-1 sensor and scales the sensor to 48mm x 36mm, they should end up with over 37MP. For the 5.3um pitch found in the new Olympus E-300 sensor, they should end up with over 61MP.

I don't even want to think about file sizes and write times to compact flash.

As I understand both are 22 mp? What makes the pictures different? So exept from built, ergonomics and stuff are there any differences in picturequality between shooting with a DSLR and a MF digitale back?

It would be fun to see photos of the ZD alongside the DSLR babies, the -ist DS (possible now), or the E-300 (not yet).

Though apparently the 1Ds Mk II is even bigger, or at least heavier.

They confirm the rumored price of 10,000, even though it is in euro this time. That would really shake up the "DMF" sector.

:-O

Really, hard to call it "Medium Format". It does take lenses from
what was a "medium format" system, but the 48mmx36mm size is....
well??
I thought "Medium Format" was defined as anything larger than 24mm x 36mm and smaller than 4 inches x 5 inches, and excluding some very old Kodak films in that size range?

Most Medium Format film cameras have a 6cm dimension because they use use 120/220 film, but is Medium Format defined as having a 6cm dimension??

Greg

However, it doesn't appear so. At least I would like to use my
regular RZ lenses with the back as I have almost every one they
made.

Darcy
And you should know there will another RZ-D for fully connect to the back and that can full use the shutter speed. Those MF do not have electric contacts will remain higher speed as 1/60 only, man.
