Larry, I am not suggesting that there is anything wrong with a high
end product having 1 percent of the DSLR market. None of the 645
cameras has as much market share as the 1Ds does, but I can believe
that they are profitable.

My point was only to answer the question of "why no 24x36mm format
from Nikon", by suggesting that Nikon can afford to ignore such a
small sector of the market --- just as Canon and Nikon have
successfully ignored medium format in film cameras for many years.
Well,

all the photography I do is done on less than .000001% of the cameras our there, so as long as they fill my niche I'm a happy guy.

Medium format isn't a growing area from what I can tell, but I know a lot of folks with 22MP backs doing very well.

If Nikon ever does bring out 36x24 I'll buy it as well, but for now the Mamiya is very interesting, and if pricing rumors are true, very affordable. It certainly wouldn't be a do everything camera, but for studio work it might be a breakthrough.

From Luminous Landscape forum

"LATE BREAKING NEWS and there is a lot of it from the floor of Photokina. Oh my aching feet. If you own a Kodak back or any back period as long as it works, trade it in on a P25 for a value of $10,000 off the purchase price.

The p25-H101 made its debut at Photokina. It is now a production unit and a few units should be arriving in the US next week. I am hoping I bring one home with me. If not they are starting to ship and we will see a good number of units begin to arrive in October. By Late October the Contax P-series will ship.

The Phase One booth has been jammed all day with people trying the P out. Of course there is a lot of other buzz out there. based on people arriving at the booth from what they have seen, there is still no better image quality than Phase One.

If you are interested in a trade in of a back you own now and need the nemae of a delaer please let me know.

Does anybody remember the D2x specs off hand? This thing doesn't look much bigger.

Larry

Okay, I had to check:

D2x: 157.5 x 149.5 x 85.5, 1070g

Mamiya ZD: 161.5 x 152 x 90.8, 1200g

It's a handful, but not unmamageable.

Exactly how much in U.S. $$$ is $10K Euro?

Juergen,

Usually we of the dollar persuasion usually get a break (I think Japan feels sorry for us because Europeans get six weeks of vacation and a lot of us over here wouldn't know what a vacation was if it bit us), and $10,000 (or $9,995) sounds good, so I suppose that'll be the price. If so, that's a deal. Now if they just made a Tilt Shift Lens.

The more pictures I see of this thing the better it looks. Can't
wait to see some image FROM the camera. Could be a great-handling
camera with it's size and from all appearances a fairly sensible
control layout. The writers on letsgodigital struck a cord with me
too when mentioning how nice it was to look through an MF sized
viewfinder compared to current DSLRs.
Hey Chris,

viewfinder size is an issue several people have mentioned in the forums, and it would sure aid in composition to have something big and bright, especially for old geezers like me.

Can't wait to see a working review of this thing.
