HI,

I'm using PhotShop PS to convert my RAW files to JPEG's and I'm finding the picutres are little dull and not sharp. is this the known problem.

what is the best software to convert RAW files to JPEG?

Here is an example of a picture converted both in Nikon View and Photshop PS.

I have not done any post processing and the thing bothering me is why these two below picutres show different results.

Please let me know what you think?

EXIF info:
Lens : NIKON 50mm 1.8 d
A: 1.8
S: 1/30
ISO 800
WhitBalance: -2 Auto
Exposer: + 0.3 EV

using Photoshop CS and Adobe Camera Raw (ACR). However, what you must reallize is the ACR ignores almost all in-camera settings. YOU must fine-tune the white balance, exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation and sharpness. ACR uses it's own set of default values for these (and the remaining) parameters and requires you to work a little harder. But there is no reason to end up with dul, fuzzy pictures unless they are dull and fuzzy to begin with.

Thanks Bob for the comments.

Well, The pictures I have converted using Nikon View look good to and I have printed them and the prints also look good. But the pictures I have printed which are converted using PhotoShop PS came out very dull.

I think as you said I have to spend more time on post processing when using Photshop PS.

Do you have any genaral Phootshop Script which does all the adjustments you have mentioned? or do you know if I can get that from some where?

Any help in this regard will be very helpful to me.

Adobe Camera Raw you should consider getting a copy of "Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS" (Bruce Fraser).

You can use Assign of low-gamma profile, convertion back to "normal" gamma 2.2 and some fasr curves tweaks.

I used Curve Therapy.

http://www.russellbrown.com - once you set settings it will batch convert them all with the settings from the first picture so you have to group them but it should do the trick. Nikon View is good for applying all in camera settings and getting a very good jpeg.
