How is the white balance on the 20d? Much better than the 10d?

And how does it meter...ok? Does it blow out the highlights like the 10d was prone to do? Looking to get one as a backup...
thanks..t

I am no master photographer.. just an average joe.. but to me, both white balance and metering seem much better. On the metering, I do a lot of outdoor softball pictures. Dark uniforms with white sleeves or socks. With 10D I found myself exposure compensating down a full stop to avoid blowing out the whites. With the 20D, maybe 1/3.

The white balance SEEMS better. I need further shooting to come up with a definite conclusion. With my Sigma SUper 500 flash on, the camera AUTOMATICALLY picked flash exposure (I think - on auto, I saw the flash symbol in my viewfinder). I've only shot at night so mostly flash shots for me. My natural light shots with my 50mm 1.8 @ ISO 800 & 1600 seems to be better at NOT producing too much HOT photos (too red). It's not perfect though, keep that in mind.

My highlights have not yet been blown except for in extreme contrast situations. I didn't have this problem with the 10D because in bright lit situations, I always shot -1/2 exposure, which did the trick (or metered the whites & set on Manual focus). Perhaps the 20D shoots auto at -1/2 (as compared to the 10D). It's never been a problem of mine since I've always felt that we had 100% control even if the camera is set at a certain level.

yes major difference. AWB is now actually usable and Auto Exposure is also much better.
