Giant Hornet Pic

Hi all. I just got back from Ohio. Does anyone remember me Lol.
Anyhow I had a good time and got a few decent pic's. Here's 1 of a
giant hornet. These thing's are MEAN and im crazy for getting this
close to it. It was eating at this tree limb and was being bothered
by bees and flies. It would chase them off but 1 good sized bee was
a little stubborn and kept coming back. Well needless to say that
bee is dead. This hornet flew in the air caught the bee in flight
they both fell to the ground and this was the only 1 that was able
to fly after the fight. It was kinda cool to watch. Anyhow here's
the pic.

B-rad,

I went through your photo album and it just blows me away!
Especially Pic 12...how BIG are those bugs anyway???

Anyway, I think your work is truly amazing and very inspiring to
someone like me just starting out.

What camera and accessories do you use for your macro?

Thanks,
jonalisa
Thank's jonalisa. Them robber flies are huge-I would say close to 2 inches. I used the c2100 and the bmacro len's.

Hi B-rad, can I ask you if you use any sharpening/USM on your
wonderful macro shots? they are just so pin-sharp! I wish I could
get more of mine like that.
Thank's Pam. I did use sharpening on this pic. I really don't know how to use the program-photo shop element's that is. I just clicked the auto sharpen button 1 time and it improved the pic a bit. It is the only pic that I've tried this on tho.

That's just simply an awesome shot. I just got myself an MCON-40 macro lens today and I hope I'll be able to take such wonderful shots as you have.

Thanks for sharing B-rad!

I think it's the closest thing out there to an UZI. LOVE that long zoom with IS, I am getting shots I never thought I could. Now I just need to get the adapters for my Oly lenses!

Well that's cool Theresa. I don't use my IS anymore cuz I bought a tripod to lug-and I mean lug my uzi around. I think my arm's got an inch bigger around carrying all that weight Lol. Hope you stay with us in the oly forum.

Now how giant are these things? A regular hornet is about 1 1/4" to 1 3/8", is it that much bigger? Beautiful colors in your shot, all my hornets are brown or black which makes it hard to get a lot of detail because of the lack of contrast.

Thank's Leo. Looking at the bug book I have I guess it's not that big.3/4-1 1/8. Not sure why they named it that but it sure looked big in the viewfinder. He was kinda colorful compared to the other bees-hornet's that I see.
