Is it possible to run a SD Card on a 20D (or a 10D for that matter)? It seems to me that Canon is making a slow transition to SD Cards (1D MkII and the 1Ds MkII(?)). The SD Cards from what I've seen seems pretty fast as well. And the small size is probably future-safe.

So I'm figuring if I should by a 2G Scandisk UltraII as a CF or SD Card?

As far ai i am aware the 20D only has a CF slot.

so if you can find an adaptor thet will fully Enclose and SD card into a CF sized package then i see no problems.

be interested to see if you find one (or an xd one for that matter)

after I posted the last message I did a search and this is what I found

http://www.hitishop.com/hitsdad1.html

Don't know the reliability or anything of the sort, or if it fits in the CF slot of the camera.

I bought one from australia, they shipped it to me in the UK, way cheaper than i could get it here (cheaper than US too).

Wow.

Serious investigation of Card speed! Did you tried it on a 20D?

Any opinions about the future of SD and CF Cards?

The CF transfer speed in the 20D is amazing. SD has never proven itself as an affordable large storage solution. In fact, it has yet to show itself AS a large storage solution. 2GB CF is now common and affordable, and drives at 4GB and 5GB cut those costs even further at the expense of a little speed.

SD is a solution looking for a problem in DSLR's.

only got a 16MB Panasonic SD card, but that works fine (got a 60x ATP 1GB card coming).

I'm hoping that the SD card via a CF adapter is at least as quick as a fast CF card, maybe even faster (compare the SD write speeds Vs CF write speeds in the 1d-ii).

Either way it would mean i could reuse my SD cards in my Canon Ixus i, and in my 20D also.

Price wise 1 1GB 60x ATP SD card is the same price as a 1GB SAndisk Ultra-II card. If it's faster, then great, otherwise i have a card i can use in my ixus i OR my 20D. Perhaps not as cheap as a 5GB ST1 or microdrive if ripped from a MP3 player, but, i can be 'rougher' with a SD card than a microdrive.

Havent you heard?! The Canon EOS 30D don't have a CF slot. It only accepts SD!

=)

Well, that was one of the questions, will the SD replace the CF in the near future? (Say 12-24 months.) The 1D MkII accepts both cards. But the D30/D60/10D/20D/30D(?)-series will probably never accomodate more than one memory card slot. I'm only trying to be forseeing when chosing a big, expensive (for me anyway) memory. So I can use it a couple of years to come.

But then again, your probably right. Go with the cheaper CF now. We know little about the future world of dslr and if CF is out of fashion next year then by that time a same size SD will be much cheaper then now.

Sandisk Ultra II 2GB are going for about $160.00 right now (when they get them in stock). What are the SD disk going for?

For myself, I already ordered qty.2 Sandisk Ultra II 2GB CF.
I wouldn't even consider using SD (with an adaptor).

I don't believe Canon is making a slow transition to SD, it's a another viable option. Most pro SLR will come CF simply because CF have been and will continuingly provide faster(not neccessary comparable to other flash card, but to older model) larger storage. Remember that 8GB and 12GB is coming out. I don't think any SD card will come anywhere near that. As long as CF still deliver faster/larger storage, the CF will remain in the dSLR. All newer flash card(non CF) are smaller in size and that's because the P&S digicam demand smaller flash card. an SD actually provide one card for both platform, while there is very no reason(small reason if any) for using smaller size flash card on a big(huge compare to P&S) dSLR.
