u are mad or what??? such a long post about nothing???

I would never compare d70 to 300d which is by the way a point and shoot dslr... another weak points of canon bodies are lack of spot metering, problems with shutter mechanism and ERRORs while attaching old lenses.... these are the things people complain about and u can't deny it... some time ago I was a user of s602 which has a dust issue, some of forum members

let Daniella play with 300d, she is a good photographer and she will do even with the compact cam

objectively.. d70 leaves 300d and 10d in shade... at some points it also shades d100...

FINITO;)))

here is a relevent approach of nikonian to the 300d

And with the L lenses it's far superior in every way including speed! The 300D rocks! The ultimate JAM CAM!

NOTE: The following is my OPINION. Nothing more. In it's being simply an OPINION it is really not up for debate. :o)

Pic. Quality.... Yes, the 300d/10d have ISO 100. The pictures DO look smoother. Whether or not this is a good thing is personal perference. I, personally, feel the images look like they were run through Neat Image and find the images a bit to plasticky-looking for my taste. The 10D images were too soft, even when using my 50mm 1.8 prime! This was the major reason for my switching to the D70. The images from the D70 have more "pop." They appear to have more detail and "snap" to my eye. None of the details appear to be "smoothed" out. In fact, the D70 pics need very litte, if any, pp, while the Canon images needed tweaking, especially sharpening. The 300D images look better to me than the 10D and the d70 looks better than both!

Build Quality..... The 10D is the most solid. It is also very heavy. I am a woman, so the extra weight was noticable to me. The 300D and D70 are both plastic, but anyone that has actually held both knows that all plastics are not created equal. :o) The 300D "feels" plastic. The D70 does not. A night and day difference, IMO.

Operation.... I found all 3 easy to use and operate. No issues there.

Speed.... D70 wins here. Hands down. Both the 10D and 300D are very slow to turn on compared to D70. Also image playback is painfully slow with 10D. A little less so with the 300D, but still much slower than the D70. The general speed of operation is much faster on the D70. Shutter lag is similar on all 3 for my shooting style. VERY minimal. Shot to Shot time is faster on D70 as well. I did not perform any true time tests. Again, this is my opinion and I am not stating anything as fact. In my opinion, I found the D70 to operate much faster than the Canons.

Kit Lenses.... This may or may not be relevant. For someone looking to buy a "kit" it may be. The Nikon lens is a really good lens! It is sharp, fast and the build quality is excellent. The Canon lens is disappointing. Sure you can get good shots with it. This is true of any lens. It is easier to get good shots with the Nikon lens more often. I am very happy with the kit lens.

Kits.... Okay, so this is just something I was impressed with, so I thought I would throw it out there. The actual Nikon kit is very nice! The lens comes with a lens hood. It also comes with a nice soft suede-type bag for storage. A nice touch! A plastic snap on LCD cover is also included. The Canon kit has nothing of the sort. I found the Nikon bundle very nice and complete.

I have to say again, that the above is MY opinion and MY experience with these cameras. Nothing more. Please do not attack me for stating such. I have been a long time reader and short time poster on these forums and have seen many people attacked for voicing their opinions and I do not want that to be the case here. I am only posting to potentially help someone that may be struggling with DSLR choices and might benefit from my experience.

... piece of sharing, that I hope you don't mind me linking it up
here:

300D -> D70)

That was quite a brief period of 300D ownership you went through
:-)) . Did you think of getting the 20D at all?
Sure, you can link to my post. I do not mind at all. As for the brief ownership period.... I bought the 300D first and quickly realized that I could not deal with the mode-related metering modes. Although it does a good job of metering on it's own, I really like having the ability to choose the metering mode for each scene as I see fit. I then bought the 10D and while I loved the build quality, the images were too soft and lacked that "punch" that I like. Some people prefer the smooth, dull look so they can adjust to their liking in PP. I am not one of those people. The least amount of work, the better for me. :) My first outing with the D70, I knew it was the camera for me. The pics straight out of the camera (using a custom curve) were everything I had hoped for. Every pic was in sharp focus (sometimes it was hit or miss with my 10D) and the contrast and color were right on. I do not regret my choice one bit.

As for the 20D, it looks like an amazing camera! However, to get a comparable kit (D70+ 18-70mm lens) would have cost much more. The body is $1500 and the new lens, I believe it is 17-85mm IS (I may be wrong on that), is $600. So we are looking at $2100 vs. $1200-$1300. Granted the 17-85 has IS so it is more expensive, but that range is the only thing similar to the 18-70mm Nikon lens that I am aware of. For the price difference, the d70 was the clear winner.
