You mention that there are numerous brands of replacements for the Canon BP511 that are 1/2 the price. Could you please give the brands and where I can purchase them?James -
It DEFINITELY does not take AAs. In fact there are no disposable
batteries of any kind that are suitable to my knowledge. But ..
why should you even think or bother with such a thing. The original
Canon batteries as usual are far too expensive but as an additional
for extra work there are numerous brands on the market at abouit
1/2 the Canon price - most of them are actually better than the
original. Whether you want more than one spare is debatable as
with 'normal' use the battery usually will outlast the majority of
your shooting sessions.

Another of the messages had mentioned Battery Barn. If that's what you recommend too, then I'll go there. I was just wondering if there are other sites/brands.Hi Sue. I ordered the AcDelco 1500mAH battery from Battery Barn a
few weeks ago, it was for $60 but it last longer than that original
Canon battery (3+ hours) they also have the regular replacement
battery for about $42 with free shipping.

I have casually noticed them now and then on US online sites (my
search engine seems to come up with hardly anything but US dealers
with mouth-watering offers usually) but as I'm in UK I cannot of
course give you immediate rereferences (assuming you are in US?)
but here in UK I have already bought two extras - one from a
national chain with a local shop and another from a regular UK
online seller - both were actually slightly higher capacity than
the Canon original and barely more than half the price. They are
excellent I can assure you , as I use these more than the Canon
that came with the G1. They are actually an original Canon
camcorder battery, so they've been out quite some time. Do a search
under 'BP-511 battery' on http://www.google.com and I bet you'll come up
with some leads and if the prices are anything like as low against
our standards you'll be well satisfied.

Thanks for your help. Another message popped up in the meantime that cited BHPhoto.com as having the AC-Delco 1500 battery for $39.95. So I went there and purchased it. With $6.45 shipping, it was still cheaper than the $60 at Battery Barn.
