D2X - Who's in?

My D100 deserves a graceful retirement into backup status. I'm already #1 on the list at my local shop. I'll be keeping the D100; I suspect the D2x will only be a "working" camera, and not the one that I keep on my shoulder 24 hours a day.

Grrr because I was hoping against hope that the digital package would be in the same form factor as the F6 - meaning, F100 form factor. Given a choice between 1 less inch of body height or a vertical grip, I'll take the smaller body 10 out of 10. But they did everything I wanted in the D2x. It'd be wrong to not go along.
I'm curious based on the last 24 hours:

1. Will you buy a D2X?
2. What will you be upgrading from?
3. Do you plan on keeping your original camera?

1. Yes if it $5000 or less, No if it $6500.00
2. I have a D2H, upgrade is a questionable term
3. Yes.

Can you not get great pics from the $1800 to $3000 cameras you already have??? If people buy the camera for that price then Nikon basically wins meaning that the next camera will probably be somthing like $8000 and you all will go run off and buy it. Let see, by 2008 these cameras will be somthing like buying a lower end BMW. Guess I will be stuck with the Geo for ever.

Hi there,

I might upgrade from a SLR/n.

It will depend on:
  • image quality vs that of the Canon 2D,
  • actual availability,
Best regards,
Bernard

Will depend on image quality from production camera and other details still missing.

I will probably sell the D1x at least after a month or two with the new camera. I am not pro at this point so don't need the backup, and the D1x battery situation is weighing on my back ;-)

If D200 will be based on F5 body and will have same sensor as D2x has - it will be D200. Otherwise it will be D2x.

Probably I would go for the D2X from my D1x if it gives significant advances in ISO level sensitive, focusing performance.

Would keep my D1x.

Lukerman....what will you purchase? Weren't you just slagging someone a little while back that the D2X was a hoax and that he didn't know what he was talking about....also something about him needing to get a job. Looks like you've found yours.....eating crow!

D1x

Yes, after all I kept the F, F2, F3, F4 and am using an F5.
Doubt that I'll go after an F6 though.

for scenic photography the 1.5 crop is a problem. I'll keep my D1x
and possibly add a Kodak slr/n

I will recomend the SLR/n, I have one, great camera. I have also put my name on the list for the D2X. I think with this combo (if the D2X pictures are good) you could tackle any job.
Kevin.

I’m looking to get two D2x bodies. First one ASAP second subject to evaluation and availability. I will keep D1x and sell (or retire) D1.
