Canadian 20Ds Thread Part 2

Well, good you wanted something else, but still... you've pre-ordered it and you would get it in like Oct.... that's insane... I would call my credit card company and just say "cancel anything from that company".

odd... glad I didn't order from them in the end... Camera Canada were nice, but just couldn't get the goods to me. Aden Camera had it, and now getting it tomorrow.

Unless you're very low on the waiting list I'd be very surprised if
the 20D didn't show up by Tuesday. The only question is if you'd
get one of the initial shipments.
For that kind of money I'd just wait another day if I could.
What about that 70-330 DO lens. Maybe that new flash.
The girl told me they don't know when or how many they were
getting. Seems they better get their stories straight. She was
pretty adamant that she had absolutely NO information to give me.
Actually, she said "soon".
Let me guess ..Ingrid?? I've dealt with her many times and she has
been snotty with me everytime. By the luck of the draw I spoke to
her yesterday got the same answer as you did. I called back this
morning and dealt with a manager.

It's n=1 only, but one time when I bought $10000 of equipment for my workplace, Vistek was on the ball, but Henry's gave me the runaround. $10000 isn't a huge amount of money, but it's pretty significant to me.

Thus, I tend to go towards Vistek when I buy, but to be fair, most of the sales guys at Henry's are pretty good too.

The main problem with Henry's I find is with their website. It's annoying to navigate Henry's site IMO.
...it's getting 20Ds AND 17-85 IS lenses today. I don't know if
they'll have extras or not.

Vistek rocks by the way. :)

So a few people have picked up the 20D at a few places in Canada
today. What about the 17-85 IS? And I assume the 18-55 is NOT USM?

The Americans are saying it isn't, but one Japanese guy got a USM
18-55 in his 300D kit last year.
The Japanese 300D ("KISS") kit lens was USM, so their 20D kit will likely have the same lens.
I'm just glad all the 20D 17-85 IS 'kits' are USM, although I think
that may possilbly be because the lenses are separate. ie. 20D body
only + 17-85 IS.
I doubt that Canon would design an IS lens that was not USM.

Phil

It's a pretty good deal. It's $49 more at Vistek. Vistek has the better return policy though (and very good service too).
Just called them, they have 20D with 17-85Kit available now. The
price is $2750 cnd, and the free battery only goes with the body
only, so there is no free battery with 17-85 kit. Should I pick it
up at my lunch hour? It's only 10 min drive from my office. I don't
have any lenses now.

Canon OEM BP-512 - unfortunately not the BP-511A which is what comes with the camera. Supposedly BP-511A offers about 30% more power than BP-512. Realistically though my BP-511 / BP-512 lasts a LONG time (on the 10D at least; I imaging it'll be similar on the 20D) so I am not too worried about it.

Andy
Thanks,
ran
I paid $1999.95 + taxes, which worked out to be $2300. That is
with a free OEM battery.

Andy

Henrys was good enough to extend my return period on my 10D to 60 days, effectively swapping me the 20D for the 10D (even after I'd used the 10D). To make sure they do it, I took my 10D in the other day and got a credit from them. Now I will just apply the credit to something else.

Well, Vistek has been a professional oriented store since day one. If you're into the more exotic gear, often you have no choice but to go to Vistek. (Try getting color management stuff from Henry's for example) Used to be that Vistek's the most expensive place in town, but its prices are very competitive these days. So unless it's a big item, I ususally go straight to Vistek.

As for Henry's, these guys are pretty clueless. I once saw a used Olympus E10 on their website. I called the downtown store where the camera was supposed to be and they told me to come down. I drove all the way down and then they told me all the used stuff have been moved to the clearance center next door. The guys at the clearance center said none of the digital stuff has arrived yet. So I went back and forth between the two locations and nobody even bothered to try and find out where is camera is supposed to be. They just told me to come back, which I couldn't do until the next weekend. A few days later, the camera was removed from the used section on their website and never appeared again. That's great in a sense because I said to h*ll with this garbage and decided to get a DSLR instead.

In any case, for this kind of service, I can understand it if their prices are dirt cheap, which they certain are not. In fact, they are probably the most expensive in town for most things. I've stopped dealing with them for quite a while now.

The problem I have is that I'd go to Aden or Vistek, but given that it's downtown (or the other one at Pacific Mall here in Toronto and parking/traffic is nuts), I end up going to Henry's which is about 10-15 minutes away from me.

I was tempted in going to Aden as I originally purchased my DRebel there and decided to go back to Henry's after some good customer service I received lately. But this last one does add a piece of data that I should have stayed with Aden as that one is at least easily reachable for me.

Plus I'm one for NEVER dumping all of my money into one store but rather spread it around to all of the stores but that's just me.

Camera Canada
I call today at 3pm and they told me I get mine tomorrow with the grip
Order # was 10450
BTW I got the last one and the last grip

To be fair to Henrys, they have more stores and it's mor pot luck as to whether you get a good rep. I ahd a great non-buying experience iwth them. I went in to buy a Rebel and the sales guy said come back and buy decent glass, don't get hung up on the technology. Of course he was perfectly correct, I bought my Dgital Rebl 9 months ago and am now replacing it!!!

Their deposit policy allows you a full refund. they have already debitted my credit card andthey don't have the cameras yet, bit anoying but I can deal with htat.

when you say Kanata, do you mean Kanata that is near Ottawa ?

I was unaware there were more than one Henrys, the main one is on Toronto is it not ?

I've seen how UPS and Purolator handle packages, is it better to pick up a camera at the store ? ...... we have no clue how they handle a 20D when they are shipped to us, do we.

I was just on their website and there is no mention of
any free battery.

There are no options for the camera either, - it's just the body
when you click "add to cart " hmm, what am I missing :-(
