Airshow - IS on or off?

Hey Everyone,

I'm going to be shooting an airshow today with the 100-400 IS. Should the IS be left on or off for shots of fast moving jets?

... as long as it's mode II or off! If you don't 'ride' the shutter button to keep IS going, turn it off. I tend to use Tv anyway, at a fairly high shutter speed. That is my primary airshow lens ...

I'll probably leave it off then, as it slows the AF a little. SS should be around 1500/sec for the big guys and 250/sec for the props.

Which air show? I am going to be at one in St. Louis with my 100-400 today! The Blue Angels are here.

I will probably be closer to 12:15 or so. I am going to be in the parking lot over by El Maguey. It is a lot less crowded and the planes fly directly over head. Its even free!

Pehaps I will see you there. I will be using a Mark II and the 100-400.

I might see you there. I am not even packing my wide or any other lens. I am going with a friend, my wife and kids. I don't think I will be getting that close for ground shots. The area that I am in they come pretty close already. To give you an idea of how close they come to the parking lot, here is a shot with the 100-400 and 120 a couple of years ago when the Blue Angels were last here...

Actually, here is a better shot of how close they come over head. This one was at 100mm...

These aren't good shots, but they do give you an idea of how close they come.

Its actually off of Long Road. It is very close to the airport.

Do any of you have some pics posted anywhere from the St. Louis air show?

I have two friends who went, one forgot his camera, the other has an old 1MP digicam and has some not so great photos. I'm trying to clean some of his up, but If I could download a few plane shots that would be great to send his way too. I'm not asking for high-res printable stuff, I don't want to steal anything you might be able to profit from. Just looking for some some cool screen saver / desktop material.
