Who's Staying?

My "I got an inheritence" period is over. I have to make money with the camera before buying any more.

The good news is I already have 2 weddings booked for next summer :)

With all the talk of upgrading to the 20D or a dropped in price
10D, this is gonna be a ghost town shortly. Is anyone absolutely
staying with their 300D?

I'm sticking with mine, spending my money on lenses right now. I
just ordered the Sigma 18-125, i need to get rid of some of the
ones i dont use anymore (Canon 75-300IS, Tamron 28-300mm XR, Canon
18-55 Kit lens) Hopefully after i get back from Alaska i can get
them on ebay.

Let me know when you put your Canon 75-300IS on EBay. Definitely interested in IS with that range.

Although I will upgrade, I will keep the 300D as a second camera. For my work, I do need a few bodies.
Rudiman: Just looked at your website and really love your bird pictures.

Thanks also for your input regarding to the 50-500mm Sigma, as that is one lens I am still undecided whether to buy.

Olivia
The Sigma 50-500mm rocks, you wont be disappointed. You can
checkout some of mine if you like.

I am also waiting for that announcement. Unlike many others, I actually like the light weight of the 300D. A replacement with the same sensor, as is in the 20D, would be perfect to haul around with. Isn't there going to be a photokina or so, a short time from now? They might announce it then, I hope. I haven't pre-ordered the 20D while awaiting the successor for the 300D.

Olivia
...or 300D Mk.II, or whatever the replacement for the 300D will be
called. It's rumored to be out within the last quarter of 2004.
It will likely have the same sensor as the 20D, and as many of the
20D's other features as Canon thinks they can include without
taking sales away from the 20D. Price will likely be similar to
what the 300D cost when it was introduced.

Welcome! You won't regret buying the 300D. Unless you are planning to do a lot of sports, the 1D MK11 is overkill, I think. I would never buy the 1D MK11 due to the enormous size and weight. Now, if they could put all of that inside a 20D or 300D body...........

The 75-300IS is an excellent lens for wildlife and birding(used to have that one, and might consider getting another one)

Olivia
So it wasn't my ideal choice, but I literally didn't have the money
plain and simple (not couldn't afford to spend it, I didn't have
it). I thought about saving up for a 20D, but I soon realized this
would take a long time, to long. So instead I've bought a used 300D
and traded my G5 for an ef 75-300 IS and some accessories and cash,
and will buy an ef 18-55 lens once they hit the market. I'll save
my money from here on out and hopefully be set for the release of
the 20D's replacement, or maybe a used 1D MkII.

Just got the 300D. I'll hang on to it until I fell it's the camera limiting me (and not the other way). When I'll feel the camera really is holding me back, I'll install the hack.

Until then, money will be spent on lens (the announced 10-22 would be lovely), and accesories (flash, CF) and so on.

Anyway, it seems a bit strange for me to watch a herd of photographers heading for a camera that's only been announced and previewed by only a few individuals.

I'm so comfortable with the 300D, that 15% increase in resolution isn't enough for me to bother with. Plus, you loose a stop with diffraction... which isn't a big deal, but it's just another point against the upgrade.

I still haven't mastered my camera. The only thing that I'd upgrade for right now is a cheap full frame sensor.

Tony

Though I'd like a 20D, I see no point in getting rid of my Rebel. All things considered, I'd probably get half what I paid for it a year ago, and I think that'd annoy me too much for me to bother. Not to mention, that by the time I've bought the 20D and whatever lens I'd be about $2k in the hole.

I see your schwartz is as big as mine.

I'm staying because I just bought my 300D :)

Not everyone is loaded enough to buy a new camera at will.
Me too. Mine is only a few months old. Like others, I feel more lacking in the lens department than in the camera department. My DRebel works fine and I don't feel any need to get rid of it.

But I can understand how people who bought their DRebels a year ago are starting to get antsy. It is human nature.
